Description
The Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professors in the area of Cognitive Science.
For the first appointment, we seek a candidate who uses advanced quantitative methods to study human perception or cognition. Preferred quantitative methods would use deep learning / machine learning, including generative artificial intelligence (e.g., large language or vision-language models) to understand human perception, attention or cognition. Other comparably advanced computational methods will be considered. For this position, we are particularly interested in a scholar whose work lends itself to novel collaborative initiatives across areas and disciplines.
For the second appointment, we seek a candidate who has a proven record of research in the area of Cognitive Science. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research focuses on language or judgment and decision making. However, we will consider applications from all areas of Cognitive Science.
Each applicant should be able to teach and mentor Cognitive Science students at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The Psychology Department at Stony Brook University encompasses doctoral programs in Cognitive Science, Clinical Psychology, Integrative Neuroscience, and Social and Health Psychology. Available resources relevant to the position include the Stony Brook University Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS), the Institute for AI-Driven Discovery and Innovation, the Institute for Engineering-Driven Medicine, and the Social, Cognitive, and Affective Neuroscience (SCAN) Center.
