Position Overview

The Ohio State University’s Department of Arts Administration, Education & Policy (AAEP) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Art Education to begin August 15, 2025. AAEP faculty and programs are committed to growing and expanding the field and are at the forefront of innovative approaches to exploring the intersections of arts and culture. We seek candidates whose professional experience, research, teaching, and service demonstrate a developing expertise in art education, in, for example, settings such as museums, cultural organizations, non-profit institutions, and community centers. This position offers opportunities for collaboration with faculty in other departments across the College and University.

Performance Objectives

  • Demonstrate a record of scholarship and engagement in art education and shared commitment with the College to research, service, and instructional excellence.
  • Undergraduate and graduate student advising, including advising in our distance education program Art Education M.A. program.
  • Teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, both in person and online.
  • Maintain an active scholarship agenda
  • Support the expansion of our current informal learning programs, including the informal track in the Bachelor of Art Education (BAE) program, the Online MA in Art Education, and the Museum Education & Administration specialization.
  • Imagine and co-develop new learning opportunities, both in-person and online.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Ph.D. in art education or a related field (e.g. Curriculum & Instruction; Education) by August 15, 2025.
  • Research contributions (including but not limited to scholarly publications) that are national in scope and respond to contemporary perspectives in art education
  • Promise of a sustainable research trajectory for career advancement

  • Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a diverse intellectual community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values (see below in the University Description)
  • Record of successful professional collaborations within higher education and with the local community
  • Experience mentoring students and early-career professionals
  • Demonstrated understanding of informal education, teaching and learning (i.e. museums, community-based, distance education/online platforms)

AAEP faculty are internationally distinguished for an interdisciplinary body of research in such areas as contemporary theory and philosophy; disability studies; gender studies; American Indian Studies; Black studies, critical race theory in art education; community engaged reseach; critical museum studies; teacher preparation, arts-based research; phenomenological studies of teaching/learning experience; cultural policy; creative economic development; arts and cultural entrepreneurship; arts administration and management; cultural program design, implementation, and evaluation.

Our curricular offerings include a BAE (Bachelor of Art Education-formal & informal), BA in Arts Management, MA in Art Education (including both on-campus and distance learning programs), MA in Arts Policy and Administration, and Ph.D. in Arts, Administration, Education and Policy.
