Description of Position
The Associate, Counsel will provide expert legal advice and counsel on a broad range of labor and employment-related matters, collaborate with the firm’s HR Department and other stakeholders, and ensure compliance with employment laws and firm policies.
Principal Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and counsel on a broad range of labor and employment-related matters, including recruiting, employee relations, leaves of absence and accommodations, terminations, performance management, and restrictive covenants.
- Negotiate and draft offer letters, separation agreements, and other labor and employment-related agreements.
- Review and update labor and employment-related templates and policies.
- Collaborate with the firm’s HR Department and other stakeholders across the firm.
- Manage outside counsel on international and other labor and employment-related matters as needed.
- Conduct internal investigations as needed.
- Monitor legal developments relating to employment law and provide strategic, proactive advice.
- Assist with firmwide projects and initiatives.
Requirements
- JD from an accredited law school and member in good standing of the New York, California, Illinois or Texas bar.
- This role is required to be on a hybrid in-office schedule and will be based in New York
- 5+ years of experience practicing employment law in a law firm or corporate in-house legal department. Experience in financial services preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of employment laws and best practices.
- Experience handling international employment law matters preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical skills and good judgement, with ability to problem solve and apply legal concepts in a pragmatic manner.
- Highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
It is expected that the annual base salary for this role will be up to $250,000. Base salary is one component of our firm’s competitive total rewards package which typically includes discretionary compensation, comprehensive health benefits, and paid time off. Other incentives may also be available to certain eligible employees.
