Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for the position of Associate Dean for Administration. Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, faculty, students, and other administrators; provide leadership; and contribute to the growth and improvement of the College. The scope of this search will be limited to current faculty members of Mississippi State University.

Salary Grade: UC

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Leads or coordinates initiatives developed by the CVM Leadership Team (CLT) and Dean.
  • Works collaboratively with the CLT and main campus to address concerns and make improvements in CVM programs.
  • Develops and updates standard operating procedures. Embraces faculty governance and works with faculty to approve and implement CVM policies and create and update college bylaws. Ensures compliance with university policies.
  • Works with department heads, associate deans, and the Dean on matters pertaining to faculty affairs, including recruitment, faculty mentoring programs, appointments and promotions processes, professional development, and leadership training. Monitors faculty salaries to ensure that they are equitable.
  • Works with the CLT on matters pertaining to staff affairs, including recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development. Develops staff career ladders. Monitors staff salaries to ensure that they are equitable.
  • Ensures that all annual reviews are completed by units in a timely manner.
  • Works collaboratively with the Dean and CVM Fiscal Officer to develop and manage the CVM budget, including development of prioritized facilities needs and capital improvements.
  • Approves leave and outside employment requests. Liaises with Human Resources and University Counsel when needed.
  • Has primary responsibility for all required institutional effectiveness reports from CVM to the division, university, and Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL).
  • Works with other members of the CLT to prepare and submit annual American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (COE) interim reports.
  • Coordinates, ensures completion of, and distributes surveys required by the COE.
  • Organizes and coordinates COE accreditation site visits every seven years.
  • Assists with the development of the CVM Strategic Plan and monitors college programs and activities to ensure implementation of the plan.
  • Oversees the Informational Technology (IT) unit and administrative staff.
  • Attends meetings with other associate deans.
  • Represents the CVM at functions on or off campus as assigned.
  • Serves as acting dean when requested by the Dean.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10-years of experience as a faculty member at a College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).
  • Must have attained the rank of Full Professor (clinical or tenure track) and have experience in teaching, research, and academic service.
  • Leadership experience and willingness to engage in collaborative leadership.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to address challenges and make improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support to faculty and staff on Inclusive Excellence matters.
  • Experience with budget management, fiscal planning, and project leadership.
  • Ability to provide faculty mentoring and professional development.
