Job Summary:
The Associate Athletic Director, Media Relations is the primary media liaison for JSU Athletics, directing all sports information and media relations services for every University athletic team. Prepares Game Day statistics, historical records, press conferences, etc. Oversees the day-to-day operation of sports information/media relations and broadcasting of intercollegiate athletics. Generates print, television, radio and electronic sports media to local, regional, and national outlets. Oversees media relations and broadcasting staff members.
Employment in this position is contingent upon compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA and Conference affiliation.
Duties And Responsibilities:
Plans and directs the athletic media relations program.
Develops and fosters positive relations with local, regional and national media representatives.
Researches, writes and disseminates sports news, press releases, feature stories, and game highlights using digital media.
Arranges and coordinates interviews and news conferences.
Serves as official source for statistics and general information on student athletes and teams.
Compiles and records weekly sports statistics, which are given to the Conference and NCAA.
Develops and maintains accurate historical records of individual and team accomplishments.
Maintains student athlete profiles and promotes their accomplishments.
Communicates with various media outlets and regional and national athletic conferences.
Coordinates and produces media guides, team schedule posters, game programs and related athletic publications.
Updates, reviews, and otherwise designs and maintains the athletics program website and social media outlets.
Conducts and distributes weekly video interviews with coaches and student-athletes. Films and edits competition highlights for same purpose.
Contacts alumni and other vendors frequently for the purpose of advertising in game programs, sports calendars, etc.
Refers to CSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) manual.
Travels to all away athletic contests.
Liaison between athletic department and broadcast entities for televised athletic contests.
Supervises subordinates including interns and student workers.
Complies with rules and regulations of the NCAA.
Sets up press box and media facilities for media use on game days.
Produces change pages and roster cards.
Performs related duties as required.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field,
At least five (5) years’ experience in athletics administration required, preferably in an NCAA Division I level athletics program, and
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing compliance, recruitment, student-athlete eligibility and related functions
