Haymarket Media, Inc. is seeking an Associate Editor to join the Haymarket Medical Communications team for our growing Rare Disease Advisor (RDA) brand. This position is located in our New York City office but a remote employee will also be considered.


Job Overview:

The Associate Editor will contribute to the delivery of content on a range of rare diseases to an audience of healthcare providers (HCPs). S/he will work collaboratively with freelance writers and copy editors, senior editors, medical experts, and other teams within Haymarket to manage long-form clinical and medical resources for the rare diseases that RDA covers editorially, as well as other support functions for the RDA editorial team.


Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the ideation, creation, editing, and digital publication of quality news articles, interactive quizzes, and information/resource pages for HCPs and other care team members. This may occasionally include monitoring news, writing articles, and/or updating pages.
  • Assist in maintaining the RDA editorial calendar, ensuring fresh content is available across verticals for weekly email newsletters and that newsletters are error-free and deployment-ready.
  • Collaborate with freelance writers, copy editors, and fact-checkers to prepare content for digital publication.
  • Monitor press release distribution and maintain a database of potential news stories.
  • Contribute to the coverage of rare disease conferences, both virtually and on-site.
  • Use SEO and digital best practices in content creation and publication.
  • Monitor website analytics to gain insights on readership and help guide content strategy.


Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English/journalism/communications or biological sciences. Advanced degrees in these subjects are a plus.
  • 2+ years experience in medical communications/education, with demonstrated skill in editing and writing; experience with rare diseases a plus.
  • Proficient in AMA style.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices, social media, and other digital promotional strategies.
  • A successful record of handling multiple simultaneous projects and adhering to deadlines.
  • Understanding of the needs of medical professional audiences, or demonstrated ability to identify and serve the needs of a highly specialized audience.
  • Excellent reading comprehension, listening and analytical skills, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in writing/editing news articles and covering medical conferences is a plus.
  • Experience as a strong team player who can work independently and cross-functionally within an organization and follow through on all assigned tasks.
