The Associate Editor conceptualizes, plans, assigns, manages, and edits high quality content for Oncology Nursing News, in a digital and print role. This position is intended for an individual who excels at multi-tasking, and is deadline driven with top-notch writing and editing skills. This position requires an individual to have versatile creativity – whether it be to initiate a diverse social media plan or writing feature pieces and clinically-driven pieces. The position will help grow the Oncology Nursing News team’s digital space, which includes the generation of daily content for web, written or video. Additional responsibilities may include gathering content and proofreading email newsletters; interviewing oncology providers; and coordinating content with freelancers/contributors for print. Travel is required. Publishing and CMS experience preferred, and familiarity with medical/oncology terminology and AMA style. The individual for this position will also participate in data analysis and the development of recommendations from that data, and will help to facilitate the execution of chosen tactics.

Responsibilities
- Work with editorial leads and marketing on social media strategies, and conduct daily posts, listening and reporting
- Proactively update content on the website for SEO and campaign optimization to meet key performance metrics
- Drive community engagement, stimulate discussion and advocate for the brand
- Develop, write and distribute e-newsletters. Measure and report on performance of campaigns against goals and optimize for future deployments
- Collaborate with internal team on user experience across multiple channels and provide recommendations to improve technology and design
- Create compelling audio/visual components for the website, including podcasts and video interviews
- Write and edit content for internal and external digital campaigns that exceeds expectations and utilizes each platforms strength
- Regularly collaborate with editors in chief, editorial board, and audience development to establish editorial strategy, and determine content and generate topics for bimonthly print publication.
- Manage and oversee monthly selection of content topics as well as delegate content assignments and reviews.
- Proofread and edit articles for compliance with policies, style, and tone.
- Execute print production process.
- Travel (~10%) to attend professional conferences and live events, with a high understanding of strategies for live and viral videos
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences communications, medical journalism, or a related field with 3+ years of progressive professional experience and/or relevant medical background with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- An understanding of the professional roles, language and terminology, and nuances of the oncology discipline or the curiosity and interest to learn quickly.
- Ability to translate industry understanding into relevant, practical content geared toward professional physician audience.
- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in content planning and execution.
- Excellent scheduling, organizational skills with sharp attention to detail.
- Thrives both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite.
