Our Mission
The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks to inspire curiosity about, and enjoyment and understanding of, the visual arts by collecting, conserving, exhibiting and interpreting works of art of outstanding quality and historical importance and is one of four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust. The Museum operates two sites, the Getty Villa in Malibu, which exhibits its collection of Greek and Roman antiquities, and the Getty Center in Brentwood, which displays its collections of European art: Medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts, paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, drawings to 1900, and photography to the present day (including non-European works). The Museum mounts approximately 25 temporary exhibitions a year across its two sites; maintains an annual permanent gallery improvement program and offers wide-ranging and ambitious programming for its visitors .
The Opportunity
The Education Department of the J. Paul Getty Museum seeks an Associate Education Specialist for K12 Teacher Programs to support Getty Education’s broad slate of K12 teacher programs and projects. As a member of the Education Department, the Associate Education Specialist for K12 Teacher Programs will have broad knowledge of museum education best practices, teaching, pedagogy and K12 content development, and commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion principles for audience engagement. Under moderate direction, the Associate Education Specialist for K12 Teacher Programs will implement and manage K12 teacher programs and projects to foster engaging and creative experiences with art, such as in-person and virtual professional development programs and events; digital learning resources for teachers and students; and teacher wellness programming. The successful candidate will be a Subject Matter Expert on K12 teacher programming, arts integration, project-based learning, teacher professional development, and 21 st -century skill building. They will also be knowledgeable about strategies that maximize inclusiveness of programming and outreach to engage diverse K12 audiences including Title I schools, and in both in-person and remote classroom settings.

Major Job Responsibilities
- With moderate oversight from the Sr. Education Specialist for K12 Teacher Programs, this position is responsible for implementing and managing K12 teacher programs and projects to foster inclusive, engaging, and creative experiences with art, such as in-person and virtual professional development programs and events; digital learning resources for teachers and students; and teacher wellness programming at both the Getty Center and Getty Villa sites
- Works toward the accomplishment of program goals and objectives using museum engagement strategies and culturally relevant teaching strategies to meet the needs of K12 teachers. Also s erves as a strategic thought partner in the development of strategies to accomplish these goals and objectives
- Collaborates on the planning and creation of curriculum resources, promotional materials, and other program/project materials
- Uses project management strategies and proactive communication skills to develop, implement, and assess programs, and coordinate all aspects of programs and projects such as tracking budgets, coordinating program and project logistics on-site and online, managing project schedules, and maintaining materials inventories
- Contributes to the Getty’s marketing strategy as relates to K12 teachers and administrators
- Develops relationships, communicates, and collaborates with internal and external experts, including teachers, K12 school administrators, museum educators, and content experts such as curators
- Teaches with the collection and serves as a resource for teaching staff
- Serves as lead facilitator and teacher at teacher professional development programs
- Negotiates, contracts and liaises with external experts and teachers, providing direction and monitoring of external vendors according to established guidelines, procedures, and policies
- Provides leadership to project staff and/or work group members
- Serves on collaborative project teams to advise and develop current and future Education Department initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3-5 years of project/process management and subject area experience
- Strong knowledge of current museum and art education practices, curriculum development and arts integration
- Knowledge of pedagogical practices used by K12 schools and teachers in both remote and in-person classrooms
- Proven experience with program management, including managing a budget, preparing program logistics, developing and managing project schedules
- Proven experience working in the K12 sector and/or with K12 teachers
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for building effective working. relationships and the ability to contribute to a collaborative and inclusive team environment
- Strong writing and editorial skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize concurrent projects and practice effective time management strategies
- Knowledge of digital collaboration tools such as G Suite, Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, as well as digital education platforms , and learning management systems
- Ability to think creatively and use new technologies to expand outreach and program impact
- An understanding of marketing and social media practices and proven experience creating audience-centric promotional materials
