Associate Fitness Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Associate Fitness Director shall be responsible for supporting the development, implementation and sustainability of all Fitness classes and programming for YMCA members and the community, supervise daily operations of the Cottingham Campus YMCA fitness department, provide support and guidance to all fitness staff and ensure that all classes and programs achieve quality performance outcomes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides overall operational leadership to all aspects of the Fitness department for the FOOTHILLS AREA YMCA. Responsibilities include leadership of fitness center, personal training, member orientation “FitQuest” program, fitness coach/group exercise schedules, community health programs, community events, fitness maintenance and other duties.
  • Responsible for assisting with staffing of programs to include recruiting, interviewing, orientation, training, mentoring/supervising and evaluating staff and volunteers in the performance of their respective roles and responsibilities to ensuring consistent, safe and excellent service to all participants.
  • Assist Fitness Director in overseeing payroll and cumulative hours for each group exercise staff member and and/or administrative help, as needed.
  • Assist with communication of programs and schedules through Y website and various Apps, as required.
  • Ensure all data is tracked and provide necessary reports in a timely manner utilizing appropriate software. This includes tracking of fitness programs such as personal training sessions and events, group exercise class participation, Fit Quest sessions. Notify Fitness Director of any problems.
  • Follows and performs YMCA group exercise, fitness coach, small group training, and personal trainer policies and essential functions including training/instructing at separately agreed upon pay rate.
  • Provide guidance for lead coaches for the successful operations of the Community Health programs Exercise is Medicine, LiveStrong at the YMCA, Diabetes Prevention Program, Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Programs and Parkinson's Programs.
  • Facilitate and strengthen community engagement in the service areas of our branch to expand and enhance the delivery of Exercise is Medicine, LiveStrong Diabetes Prevention Program, Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Programs and Parkinson's Programs.
  • Research grant opportunities for Community Health Programs.
  • Serve as spokesperson and ambassador of EBHI programming. Maintain positive public relations with community and participants and always represent the best interests of the YMCA.
  • Support the organization and development of group fitness programming and schedules for all age populations and interests.
  • Serve as a representative of the Foothills Area YMCA at community events when appropriate.
  • Intentionally and continuously strive to promote an organizational culture that advances practices and policies which value staff engagement, diversity, strengthens inclusion, and builds global community in the US and abroad.
  • Attends fitness staff and exempt staff meetings/trainings as required.
  • Work closely with the Fitness Director, to ensure programs and impact are promoted to our membership, participants, stakeholders, partners, and communities.
  • Maintain open communication and work proactively to build strong relationships with all staff.
  • Assist in planning special events that will create a positive image of the Foothills Area YMCA in our community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must complete Exercise is Medicine, Livestrong, and Rock Steady Boxing certification within 60 days of hire
  • Must have knowledge of current Community Health programs at the Foothills Area YMCA.
  • Must hold current NCCA personal training certification or higher
  • Knowledge and interest in public health/community integrated health and evidence-based initiatives
  • Must hold current CPR/AED, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention certification within 60 days of hire
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Have a positive history of leadership in the areas of staff development, fiscal budgeting, management, and program development techniques.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain favorable relationships with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Computer skills involved Microsoft Office and email
  • Ability to perform under stress and reach deadlines
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Personal passion for health and wellness
