I. Purpose Of The Position

The Associate, Institutional Business Development will be responsible for supporting a team of (2-3) senior distribution colleagues in Institutional Sales, Consultant Relations, and Relationship Management in driving their respective business plans by collaborating with internal partners to ensure all resources at abrdn are being used to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the sales and client relationship process.

II. Primary Responsibilities

  • Shadow your senior Institutional Sales, Consultant Relations, and/or Relationship Management team in all aspects of their job and fully understand their territory, channel, clients, and consultant relationships.
  • Potential to work directly with smaller clients, consulting firms and / or prospects under the guidance of the senior team.
  • Coordinate all aspects of your team’s external meetings including preparation, meeting materials and post meeting follow up.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of your team’s client, prospect and consultant contact information in Salesforce and work closely with them to insure all underlying targeted marketing lists are accurate and timely.
  • Responsible for market intelligence for your team to uncover any industry trends, search activity, competitor activity, etc. that can lead to opportunities for your team and establish plans to capitalize on this information advantage.
  • Identify the appropriate target audience’s for abrdn’s focus strategies and work with your team to ensure touchpoints are made with those plans via the most effective medium.
  • Responsible for the screening and coordination of RFPs including prequalification, review, and coordination of fee proposals.
  • Responsible for the competitor and peer analysis.
  • Responsible for AML and Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessment for existing clients.
  • Maintenance of your team’s pipeline, Client at Risk, Consultant Ratings, and other critical reports.
  • Lead the Call to Action (CTA) process for your team.
  • Screen industry conference attendee lists in advance of events and coordinate an outreach strategy each decision maker prior to event.
  • Participate in various initiatives across the Institutional Business development team to promote the overall success of the business.
  • Complete tasks assigned with vitality and efficiency.
  • Bring energy and a fresh perspective to the team with the goal of generating new insights and increasing productivity.
  • Aspire to grow into a senior member of the team.

III. Qualifications And Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Series 7 & 63 required.
  • 3-7 years of institutional asset management experience preferred.
  • Understanding of the various institutional channels including public funds, corporate, endowment and foundation, Taft- Hartley and insurance market segments as well as the Institutional Consultant community.
  • An exceptional standout colleague with the ability to support a team up to 3 senior team members simultaneously.
  • A strong ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical ability and understanding of investment products and capital markets.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with both external and internal business partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Diligent, punctual, self-disciplined and possesses a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; captures and analyzes information thoughtfully, uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Sets high expectations for self and others.
