ASSOCIATE PROJECT MANAGER

Who You'll Work With

You will join HGA’s public sector consulting practice, a team committed to creating positive, lasting change in the communities we serve. In this role, you will collaborate with local governments to address their most pressing challenges.

Our team comprises experienced professionals from government agencies, consulting, engineering, and project management backgrounds. You will work alongside policy and technical experts to deliver innovative solutions.

What You'll Do

You will work in teams of 2-5, led by a senior manager. You will oversee multiple projects (typically 5-10) from conception through funding, budgeting, execution, and closeout. Our programs focus on community revitalization, public infrastructure, and long-term recovery after natural disasters.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Working directly with clients, often on-site, and managing specific workstreams and projects.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance, procurement, strategy, and staffing objectives are met.
  • Overcoming obstacles and keeping multiple initiatives on track simultaneously.
  • Inspiring others, fostering strong relationships, and demonstrating high energy and resilience.
  • Leveraging automation and digital processes for performance improvements.
  • Encouraging innovative thinking in challenging situations.
  • Provide a fresh perspective to the team and question established norms.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree with an outstanding academic record.

Experience: 5+ years in government, corporate, or professional services focused on project operations, with some exposure to finance/accounting.

Skills

  • Experience managing multiple projects and familiarity with contracts and invoices for construction contractors and professional services.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for federal grants is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills.
  • Comfort with quantitative analysis and technical software.
  • Effective interpersonal skills at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to understand diverse stakeholder perspectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel over 50%.
