Athletics Manager

Primary Functions: We are seeking a dynamic and energetic Athletics Manager who will be responsible for the successful leadership, supervision, development, and implementation of the Athletics program at Larchmont Charter School. The Athletics Manager will report to the Principal or designee to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations and the long-term strategic success of the Athletics program. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong candidate to build on an already robust program in a small school environment. The ideal candidate is a relational leader who demonstrates a strong work ethic and a sense of teamwork and collaboration. This is an 11-month position collaborating with the campus leadership team.

Essential Functions

  • Play a pivotal role in shaping the school's athletic culture, overseeing all sports teams, and overseeing the School’s Physical Education (PE) department.
  • Report directly to the HS Principal or designee.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and inclusive athletic program that aligns with the school's values and educational mission.
  • Create a positive and inclusive athletic culture that fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal development.
  • Be an integral leader in the high school and fully participate in the daily community life of the school.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and wellness of all students at Larchmont Charter School.
  • Ensure the alignment of the Athletics program with our mission and SLOs/core values.
  • Demonstrate and model high professional standards and promote sportsmanship among our student-athletes.
  • Coordinate the logistics of athletics practices and competitions, including securing facilities for practice and game space for all sports, transportation, calendar management, communication (both internal and external), referee fees, etc.
  • Develop excitement for and participation in Larchmont Athletics from the student body and parents, including identifying Team Parents who can support with communication, transportation, team building, etc.
  • Act as the league representative for Larchmont Charter School at all league meetings for school athletic teams.
  • Work with league coordinators and other schools to create and administer the competition schedule for all athletic teams.
  • Work with the Principal or designee to fill coaching positions with experienced, qualified coaches.
  • Orient, train, and ensure that all team coaches are performing their duties at a high level, and regularly evaluate coaches for performance and support of student-athletes. Communicate evaluations to the appropriate administrator.
  • Work collaboratively with the Principal or designee to ensure that team practices and competition schedules align with the academic schedule and program calendar, as well as with broader student life goals.
  • Develop and maintain a master schedule for all sports teams, ensuring efficient use of facilities, resources, and transportation to and from athletic events.
  • Coordinate with other schools and leagues to schedule games, tournaments, and events.
  • Ensure timely communication of schedules to coaches, athletes, parents, and teaching staff when it impacts them.
  • Recruit, hire, and evaluate qualified coaches for each sports team, fostering a positive coaching environment.
  • Provide ongoing professional development and support for coaches to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Oversee and frequently provide transportation to athletes to and from games and practices as needed.
  • Attend and oversee home and away games, providing supervision, support and guidance to coaches and athletes.
  • Ensure compliance with all league and regulatory requirements during games and events.
  • Provide basic first aid as needed.
  • Develop and manage the athletic department budget, ensuring responsible and effective use of financial resources.
  • Seek and secure external funding and sponsorships to support the athletic program in consultation with the Director of Development, including fundraising at the school site.
  • Collaborate with academic staff to support the academic success of student-athletes.
  • Regularly monitor student grades and keep compliance with CIF academic standards.
  • Transport or arrange transportation for teams to games using the vans, etc.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including subbing as needed, speaking publicly on behalf of the school at admissions and other parent events, representing the school as needed at neighborhood/facilities/security meetings, and participating in interviews and planning, executing, and supervising other activities for students/parents/staff as needed.

Facility Management

  • Coordinate the use of off-site athletic facilities and ensure they are well-maintained and safe.
  • Collaborate with LA Parks and Rec and other neighboring schools and community organizations to help secure athletic fields for sports.

  • Create a healthy and safe environment and build personal relationships with all students that demonstrate respect and compassion for all and supports student success.
  • Maintain an atmosphere that is safe, accepting, positive, and interactive.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally & in writing, with students, parents, & other professionals routinely.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation to create consistent and meaningful communication with parents and a wide variety of strategies designed to promote success for all students.
  • Respond to parent and colleague communications in a respectful and timely manner.
  • Foster positive communication with parents, students, and the broader school community regarding athletic programs and events.
  • Seek, encourage, and support parent volunteerism to assist with all aspects of the program.
  • Organize and participate in informational meetings, workshops, and events related to the athletic program and all professional development activities planned by the School.

  • Model professional behaviors and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the broader community.
  • Maintain reliable, consistent attendance and punctuality.

  • Assist in other school programs when necessary

Supervisory Duties

  • Complete an annual evaluation of each assistant coach.
  • Communicate with campus principal in a timely manner regarding any areas of personnel concern that need to be addressed. Be prepared to provide documentation to the administrator to assist in the remediation process.

Knowledge Of

Deep understanding of the unique developmental needs of high school student-athletes; Knowledge and understanding of the complexity of systems, especially within schools, and the ability to design for and within systems to maximize success towards intended outcomes; Knowledge of CIF regulations, relevant sports regulations, safety protocols, and coaching best practices; Conflict resolution strategies to support healthy social development in children; Professional skills for collaboration and teamwork with other education professionals; Written and oral communications skills.
