$53,000.00/yr - $65,000.00/yr

Employment Classification: Salaried/Non-exempt

Frequency of Pay: Bi-weekly

Salary: $53,000 - $65,000 (DOE)

Schedule: 5 days, Monday-Friday, with some occasional overtime

Environment: Onsite

The Automotive/Heavy Machinery Mechanic will be the Department's hands-on point person carrying out the day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of vehicles and farm equipment. This individual will help oversee ordering and inventory of parts and plan for how equipment will come through the shop in season and off season. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of automotive service or farm equipment repair and technical maintenance experience or have graduated from a two year automotive technician degree. They will also be familiar with service manuals, parts manuals and have good all-around mechanic aptitude coupled with a safety first mentality. Additionally, it is important to stay up-to-date with the latest technical bulletins and relevant service publications. Because of the unique work environment, when workflow allows, this role will occasionally assist the Facilities team in other capacities (painting, plumbing, electrical work, and general facilities maintenance).

Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing vehicle automotive systems including engine, electrical steering, suspension, brakes, air conditioning, tires, etc.
  • Safe and correct, knowledgeable operation of shop tools, power tools, and machines, such as a tire machine, hydraulic lifts
  • Communicate directly with the Automotive Facilities Manager to inform if any additional service is needed. Able to provide an estimate of time needed for additional repairs
  • Modifying, designing and fabricating special purpose equipment
  • Maintain current knowledge in the field of automotive maintenance schedules and have a willingness to continue to build job expertise through mentoring/coaching and on-going training opportunities
  • Assist with preventative maintenance for all systems and equipment

Operations

  • Seasonally help maintain clear and safe roadways (snow plowing, removal of debris, etc.)
  • Monitor and stock inventory and supplies
  • Observe and report any damages, unsafe conditions or facility related problems to the Facilities Manager and/or Director.

This is a highly physical role. While performing these job duties, the employee is regularly required to see and reach. The employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand for long periods of time. The employee is required to use dominant hand coordination for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation. The employee is also required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level. The employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, moving machinery, food allergens, and cleaning agents.Due to the nature of the farming industry, the employee may be required to work longer hours and varying schedules to reflect the business needs, which may include overtime or a Saturday or Sunday. (If business needs require work on a holiday, Stone Barns will provide a floating holiday for that day.)
