Position Summary

The AV Installations Technician will assist and collaborate with other internal and external stakeholders at the museum to fulfill time-based media exhibitions as needed. - Salary Grade 5

This is a part time temporary position.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of AVS, AV Systems Manager, and Lead AV Technicians, will assist in the fulfillment of audiovisual exhibition installation and deinstallation support while adhering to best practices and museum standards with aspects of design, implementation, and installation of internal audiovisual exhibition integration solutions according to the exhibition schedule. Provide consultation, technically orient and assist, as well as, interact professionally with institutional stakeholders.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods standing and sitting occur; must be able to stand up for a duration of up to three hours during an integration.
  • Frequently moves audiovisual equipment, weighing up to 50 pounds, on carts across campus to various galleries and installation locations.
  • Frequently ascends/descends ladders, scaffolding and/or lifts to adjust lighting and audiovisual equipment.
  • Frequently positions self to maintain audiovisual equipment, including under counters and in or behind racks in audiovisual closets.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and the ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience installing and wiring audiovisual technology, such as speakers, flatscreen TV’s, projectors, and projection screens.
  • Experience using and/or professional knowledge of past, current, and emerging audiovisual technology.
  • Experience making cables and/or soldering preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in audiovisual services in the arts, higher education, and/or a museum setting with knowledge of contemporary art practices using media and/or audiovisual technology. Preference will be given to candidates who possess AV installation, and/ or projection experience.
