Schedule: Full Time Monday- Friday and occasionally on Saturdays if needed.

The Role You’ll Contribute

Under the general supervision of Laboratory leadership the Laboratory Quality Manager is responsible for maintaining all regulatory and accreditation standards related to laboratory quality management. May have primary responsibility for, but not limited to, quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing, employee training and competency, process improvement through corrective and preventive action, deviation/nonconformances, risk/adverse events, internal/external assessments, safety and the physical environment, and patient safety and high reliability

Oversees quality management programs, which may include but not limited to test utilization reviews; clinical intervention documentation audits; and clinical outcome assessments, to maintain optimal clinical laboratory services and identify opportunities for growth.

Proactively uses data analysis techniques to track, monitor, and communicate the operational, clinical quality, safety and financial outcomes of assigned areas and to benchmark performance against internal targets and against local and national best practices.

Leads and champions process-improvement initiatives and evaluate risks related to initiatives

Develops and deploys action plans to ensure process-improvement project sustainability and/or continued progress towards goals. Follows up with the process improvement team to maintain sustainability.

Use statistical techniques to identify when, what, and how to measure projects and processes. Describe how metrics and data gathering methods affect resources and vice-versa.

Calculate basic statistics: measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode) and measures of dispersion (range, standard deviation, and variance). Identify basic distribution types (normal, bimodal, skewed) and evaluate run charts, statistical process control (SPC) reports, and other control charts to make data-based decisions.

Understand basic measurement terms such as accuracy, precision, bias, and linearity.

Facilitates compliance of laboratory department with all healthcare regulatory requirements and applicable state and federal laws. Coordinate departmental preparedness activities and response to regulatory surveys/audits.

Maintains a sustained record of contribution to the total body of knowledge in laboratory quality management practice through internal/external presentations, publications, formal review for a peer-reviewed medical or laboratory journal, and/or professional organization service as applicable to facility.

Actively participates in the strategic planning for the department, including prioritization of initiatives, long-term practice model developments, and internal organizational and communication models. Maintains productive, collaborative relationships with medical staff members, other hospital departments and strategic business unit leaders to promote cooperation and efficiency in providing patient's laboratory care needs.

Develop and deploy the Laboratory Quality Management Plan and ensure that it is documented and accessible throughout the Laboratory.

Creates, updates, maintains and is responsible policies and procedures related to Laboratory Quality Management.

Use various tools to analyze a process and evaluate its effectiveness on the basis of procedures, work instructions, and other documents. Evaluate the process to identify and relieve bottlenecks and eliminate waste.

Use various tools, resources, and methodologies to develop training materials and curriculum that address adult learning principles and the learning needs of an increasingly diverse workforce. Describe various methods of training delivery: classroom, workbooks, simulations, computer-delivered, on-the-job, and self-directed. Use mentoring and coaching to support training outcomes.

Assumes, when assigned in the absence of the Laboratory leadership, all delegations and responsibilities and perform in such a manner to ensure program continuity and overall functionality of the Department.

Participates or assigns a designee as a member of hospital committees and/or teams as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the Laboratory Service Line

Licensure, Certification Or Registration Required

Certified Cytotechnologist

Histotechnologist

Medical Technologist

Clinical Laboratory Supervisor

In licensure states, Laboratory Supervisor Level Licensure in appropriate specialty(ies) for the department or location assignment as applicable to the state -OR -

In non-licensure states, must hold a national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT unless grandfathered per state requirement

Bachelors and 5 years experience

2 years Leadership Experience

Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.

Two years' experience in a leadership role in a clinical laboratory

Five years' laboratory experience

Experience with regulatory and accreditation of laboratory operations

Preferred Qualifications

Lean six sigma green belt certification or higher

Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), (QI) accreditation, Certification by American Society for Quality (ASQ), or other equivalent certifications

Required Competencies

Continually assess workload and reassign and/or reprioritize projects within team.

Maintains competent, skilled, and cooperative staff by coordinating training for new employees, coaching and mentoring of all employees, and routine professional development for all staff. Lead recruitment, interview, and hiring processes for staff in assigned areas.

Develop standards of performance to maximize staff roles in accordance with licensure and/or certification, evaluate staff work and program performance, and provide direction and guidance to personnel who work within assigned area.

Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.
