Position Summary

Sony Corporation of America (SCA) has an excellent opportunity for a Business Affairs Attorney. The SCA Legal Department provides comprehensive, proactive legal services to internal clients and coordinates closely with the legal teams of our affiliates. We work in a fast-paced, hands-on, small team environment, where being both a self-starter and team player is critical.

This role will include a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days per week in person in our New York City office.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support on all aspects of mergers, acquisitions, venture capital and fund investments, joint ventures and other strategic transactions
  • Review and advise on documents relating to corporate venture capital and fund investments
  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial contracts
  • Provide legal services to assigned internal client groups, as well as supporting SCA attorneys on other assignments
  • Support the corporate secretary function for various Sony entities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications For Position

  • Requires a J.D. with strong academic performance, with membership in good standing in at least one state (preferably New York)
  • Requires a minimum of five (5) years of transactional experience working in a well-respected law firm or large corporation. A mix of law firm and in-house experience is preferred
  • A proven ability to master complex legal requirements, learn quickly, and interact easily with all levels of employees
  • Experience meeting tight deadlines while simultaneously prioritizing multiple projects is essential
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, comprehensive interpersonal skills
  • A demonstrated ability to work very closely with the business side and on project teams, and to approach issues with a strategic focus
  • Experience negotiating and drafting complex commercial contracts is preferred
  • Experience with transactions in the technology, entertainment, sports and fund industries is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • All candidates must be authorized to work in the USA.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $195,000 to $215,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
