Responsibilities

The Category Manager will support Sales, collaborating with Trade Marketing, Field Sales, Marketing, Operations and Finance to optimize the category strategy which will help lead to delivery of the overall sales and profit targets of the organization. This position will also lead the process of customer presentation development and ongoing insights around Category Management, Trade Promotion, and other Customer Marketing activities.

Essential Functions

  • The Category Manager will act as the category expert of our brands by providing best in class category and shopper insights and actionable go-to-market recommendations
  • S/He will partner with field sales and cross-functional teams (Marketing, Sales Strategy & Planning, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Finance) to develop and grow total category sales by analyzing syndicated data, shopper + consumer insights, and category + industry trends that leverage brand growth initiatives and product launches
  • Lead the process of developing and delivering innovative and insightful Sales Enablers to support sell in at all customers
  • Manage regular competitive review and reporting across retailers by providing relevant category and shopper insights to drive assortment, distribution, category placement and aisle recommendations
  • Partner with Marketing and lead monthly business reviews, on category, brand, and competitive performance:
    • Review and prepare analysis and reporting (sales, competitive activity, promotional results, etc.)
    • Prepare and advise on trends and business performance across retailers utilizing internal and external data sources (Nielsen custom & syndicated data, consumer household panel, customer data portals, etc.)
  • Support annual planning, channel/customer projects/duties as needed.
  • Own DSMP (Distribution, Shelving, Merchandising, Price) KPI tracking to monitor execution across all customers
  • Compile and present Post Promotional Analytics reports across the enterprise, including field sales, internal sales, marketing, finance, and the executive team.
  • Manage and maximize use and output of standardized reporting across category
  • Influence the line review process with shopper insights and data to make recommendations on optimal assortment, plan-o-gram space allocation and flow
  • Lead training for new analytical tools and resources for the Sales’ Team
  • The role will be an independent contributor, with no direct reports

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 5+ years experience within a CPG organization, experience in customer facing sales position is preferred but not required
  • Strong knowledge of Financial and Consumption data
  • Best in class analytical skills

  • Strong knowledge of data sources that include syndicated data (Nielsen/IRI) and trade spend reporting
  • Project management skills and ability to prioritize and multitask against several complex projects at a time.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
