This is an unpaid position. Interns will receive a stipend of $500 monthly.

Workplace Location: Eastern Pennsylvania

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) has chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Chapters have no physical offices and all employees work remotely. Interns are required to have the flexibility/capacity to work remotely within their designated chapter territory. Interns may be required to attend in-person events, meetings, and other activities within their chapter territory.

Internship Overview

The AFSP Chapter Internship will provide students with hands-on experience working with a nationwide non-profit at the local chapter level. Interns will learn the operational functions of an AFSP chapter working on special events and programs. This will include working with staff, board members, committees and volunteers on planning and coordinating chapter activities outlined in yearly business plans. The internship will require the intern receive college credit for participation. Student will need to verify and confirm eligibility beforehand.

Job Description: AFSP Chapter Intern

The AFSP Chapter Intern will assist with the planning and implementation of events and programs within the assigned chapter territory. The needs of each event and program will differ, but roles and responsibilities may include:

Participant Outreach

Calling past participants and inviting them to participate in chapter events.

Emailing current participants to let them know of upcoming incentives and opportunities.

Assist the event chair with individual participant communication if needed.

Recruiting new participants by promoting the events to various community groups.

Reporting & Tracking

Run regular reports and update tracking sheets to reflect current participation for event or program

Marketing & Communication

Drafting email communication

Posting on chapter social media channels

Creating flyers and promotional content using supplied Canva templates.

Logistics & Planning

Working with planning committee to determine logistics

Events and programs could include Out of the Darkness Walks, Loss and Healing programs, Education programs, Research Connection programs and Advocacy work.

Requirements

▪ Social Media skills

▪ Must have ability to travel across chapter territory as needed (mileage reimbursement)

▪ Ability to learn quickly, work independently, problem solve, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

▪ Must be detail-oriented

▪ Strong written and verbal communication skills

▪ Must be comfortable making phone calls on behalf of the organization

▪ Professionally represent the AFSP brand with internal and external stakeholders

▪ Displays professionalism and quality customer service and delivery skills

▪ Ability to deal with sensitive information with a high level of trust and confidentiality

▪ Experience or basic knowledge of most Microsoft computer programs, including Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

▪ Driver’s License and access to a vehicle, a plus
