Chief Economist
Trepp is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Economist to partner with Trepp’s Research team and other internal stakeholders to help develop content, thought leadership and data insights covering the CMBS and CRE markets. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in commercial real estate research and a deep understanding of commercial mortgage-backed securities. As the Chief Economist, you will play a pivotal role in content creation including co-hosting the TreppWire podcast and speaking at multiple industry conferences. This role will work very closely with our product, research, and leadership teams and report to Trepp’s Chief Product Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Market Analysis: Conduct comprehensive research on commercial real estate markets, identifying emerging trends, potential risks, and investment opportunities. Stay abreast of industry developments and assess their impact on the relevant CRE/CMBS markets
- Thought Leadership: Stay at the forefront of industry advancements and contribute to the firm's thought leadership initiatives. Publish articles, whitepapers, weekly podcast, and regular market commentaries and presentations to maintain Trepp as a leader in the commercial real estate, lending/risk and CMBS research space
- Collaboration with Trepp’s Research team: Collaborate with Trepp’s Research team in thought leadership and content creation.
- Co-Host the weekly TreppWire podcast and other regularly scheduled Trepp webinars
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial real estate research, with a focus on CMBS analysis, underwriting, along with an understanding of risk analytics
- Educational Background: bachelor’s or master’s degree in an analytical, quantitative, or real estate related field
- Analytic programming experience or evidence of the ability to develop these skills rapidly
- Highly motivated with evidence of intellectual curiosity and creativity
- Strong leadership and the ability to work across multiple teams
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills.
- In-depth understanding of financial markets, real estate valuation, lending & CMBS structures
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality research reports within tight deadlines
- Ability to represent Trepp across multiple forums as a subject matter expert

Workplace Policy
NYC, PA, and London office-based positions: Trepp’s offices follows a 3-2 hybrid-working policy with the expectation of in-office work on Tuesday-Thursday and the option to work from home on Monday and Friday.
