Base pay range

$140,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr

Job Summary:

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will devise, plan, and execute an information technology (IT) strategy that aligns with the company's business needs, maximizes return on investment, and ensures the highest reasonable level of security. The CIO will oversee and manage all aspects of the company's software development, production, and network infrastructure. This role requires a visionary leader with excellent managerial skills, a deep understanding of IT systems, and the ability to drive technology initiatives that support business goals, foster innovation, and address legacy issues.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with the Executive team to identify ways IT can support the company in achieving business and financial goals.
  • Communicate company goals, projects, and timelines to the IT department; plan ways to execute these goals within the department.
  • Establish long-term IS needs and develop strategies for systems development and acquisition of necessary software and hardware.
  • Drive the company’s digital transformation strategy, leveraging technology to enhance business processes and customer experience.

IT Management and Development:

  • Oversee and assume full responsibility for all IT-related development and infrastructure projects.
  • Identify new IS developments and technologies, anticipating resulting organizational changes.
  • Ensure that IT and network infrastructure adequately support the company's computing, data processing, and communication needs.

Legacy Systems and Technical Debt:

  • Lead the evaluation and modernization of legacy systems to meet current and future business needs.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for phasing out outdated technology and integrating new solutions.
  • Identify and address technical debt, developing strategies to minimize its impact on operations and future development.

Change and Risk Management:

  • Drive change management initiatives to ensure smooth transitions during the implementation of new systems and processes.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive IT risk management strategies to protect the company's data and infrastructure from internal and external threats.
  • Develop and maintain robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure the company can quickly recover from any IT disruptions.

Team Development and Leadership:

  • Implement a robust talent development program to upskill existing team members and attract new talent.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
  • Act as a top-level contact for end users in determining technology requirements and solutions.

Quality Assurance and Performance:

  • Establish and enforce best practices for software development, testing, and deployment to improve the quality and reliability of IT deliverables.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for the IT department. Regularly assess and report on the department’s performance, making data-driven decisions to improve outcomes.

Budget and Vendor Management:

  • Develop and implement the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers to ensure they deliver quality services and products that align with the company's goals and standards.

Customer-Centric Focus and Innovation:

  • Ensure that all IT initiatives and services are aligned with enhancing customer satisfaction and experience.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends. Advocate for and lead the adoption of innovative solutions that drive business growth and efficiency.

Policy and Compliance:

  • Create and implement policies concerning technology, ensuring security and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations applicable to systems operations.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other related software and infrastructure systems.
  • Exceptional ability to conceptualize long-term business goals and develop orderly processes to achieve them.
  • Outstanding managerial skills, with a proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Thorough understanding of information technology, network infrastructure, and IT systems and development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.


Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the administration of information systems and technology, with a progressive increase in responsibility.
  • Proven experience in a senior IT leadership role, preferably as a CIO or similar position in a mid-size company.
  • Extensive experience in managing complex IT projects, including legacy system overhauls, technical debt management, and large-scale system integrations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading change management initiatives and driving organizational transformation.
  • Strong background in IT compliance, particularly in the medical and transportation sectors.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategies that align with business goals and improve overall performance.
  • Experience in managing vendor relationships and negotiating contracts to ensure cost-effective solutions.
  • Certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional), ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library), or CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) are highly desirable.
  • Experience in budget planning and management, with a focus on maximizing return on investment.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and implement emerging technologies to drive business growth and efficiency.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with on-premises/cloud computing and migration strategies.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and incident response.
  • Experience with data analytics and business intelligence tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience in a regulated industry, ensuring adherence to compliance standards and regulations.
