Chief Operating Officer

Key Job Functions:

At VetPowered, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the overall management and operational control of a contract CNC manufacturing facility and service organization. This senior leadership role includes overseeing all departments, driving business development, and implementing marketing strategies to ensure growth and profitability. The COO will develop and execute strategic plans, foster a culture of excellence, and ensure high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Visionary

  • Serve as a key member of the management team that sets the company’s strategic direction and formulates both long and short-term plans, policies, programs, and objectives
  • Build annual budgets for business units including sales, headcount, capital expenditures and industrial space requirements
  • Build daily targets from annual budgets and communicate business goals throughout the organization
  • Develop strategic planning for the direction and control of our manufacturing, fabrication and industrial maintenance/repair services organizations
  • Be a student of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its technology leadership position

Hunam Resource Development

  • Build a learning/teaching organization to ensure long term capacity growth in advanced CNC machining technology, fabrication and industrial maintenance competencies
  • Develop our people into future leaders in manufacturing and industrial maintenance
  • Work with direct reports to create a “preferred place to work” culture
  • Create soft landing environment for veterans transitioning into civilian life

Operational – Business Acumen

  • Manage building expansion projects as well as manufacturing capacity installments
  • Manage overhead, variable, and direct labor costs to meet or exceed annual budgetary and prior year expenses
  • Manage forecast to ensure proper workforce and available floor space
  • Lead Operations to identify, recommend, specify, and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap
  • Drive quality performance, efficiency, and waste reduction through Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Develop plans and procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations, ensuring products conform to established customer and company quality standards
  • Formulate long-term growth objectives and standards of performance for the business units and ensure that they achieve objectives within the budget and time frame

Customer Service

  • Ensure that our industrial maintenance/repair services organization is focused on meeting and exceeding the customer requirements and expectations
  • Develop tools and procedures for issue tracking, workflow, customer support, complaint management and help desk
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and company goals

Qualifications & Work Experience:

To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily (with or without an accommodation). The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, operations, business or related field (will consider relevant experience in leu of degree)
  • Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing process experience and industrial maintenance, with at least 3 years in a management position
  • 5 years' recent experience in the 5-axis machining and fabrication industries
  • Strong financial acumen in a manufacturing and industrial service/repair environment
  • Cashflow management experience balancing ongoing operations, investment, and growth capitalization
  • Demonstrated team building and leadership skills
  • Working knowledge and experience in key operations best practices techniques including lean, Six Sigma, TQM, self-directed teams, Kaizen, etc
  • “Out of the box thinker” must be key driver contributing to the growth roadmap and willing to take risks while balancing the road map for deliverables
  • Manage diverse, simultaneous businesses of varying complexities
  • Strong relationship management, strategy development, project management, problem solving and change management skills
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is desirable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Experience in JobBoss (a plus)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Important Notes

Position Details: This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position (40+ hours/week).

Pay: This pay does not include any opportunity for incentive compensation and is only reflective of the base pay for this position.

The range of pay for this California-based position is $160,000.00-$190,000.00 annually.

Incentive Compensation: Potential for bonus/incentives after one full year of employment.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to push, move, lift or otherwise bear 10-30lbs. Applications may include but are not limited to repetitive work using a computer keyboard, mouse and headphones while sitting and/or standing at an assigned work desk area.

Work Environment: The employee works in a contract manufacturing facility in an urban industrial neighborhood. Other areas within the facility are mixed use such as administration, classrooms, welding, and machining areas.

Employee may have additional environmental hazards such as: chemical, electrical, flammable, or mechanical in nature.
