Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated, well organized, people leader to join the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) Clinical Research team. The CCBD at Children's Hospital Colorado has one of the best pediatric hematology, oncology (cancer care) and bone marrow transplant programs in the country. This Manager will have oversight for the operational and administrative aspects of early phase therapeutic clinical trials in kids, adolescents, and young adults.
The Manager Clinical Research is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of a functional team of at least 2 direct reports and 18-20 indirect reports. They are accountable for supporting the CCBD clinical research programs and/or studies conducted by Principal Investigators (PIs) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. They achieve functional objectives while developing individuals and teams and ensuring team effectiveness, including but not limited to, process maintenance and improvement, definition of team norms, and tracking and reporting out team metrics.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
Experience: Minimum of six (6) years of clinical research related experience is required.
Equivalency: Minimum of nine (9) years of clinical research related experience may be considered in lieu of minimum education and experience requirements.
Certification(s): Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire.
Licensure(s): None
Preferred Qualifications
Direct personnel management experience in a professional setting
Experience with operational and administrative aspects of early phase therapeutic clinical trials
Experience in Pediatric and/or Oncology clinical research
Responsibilities
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
- Develops annual work plans used to achieve goals and performance metrics.
- Participates in leadership activities for the division, contributing to the achievement of goals and objectives. Evaluates team performance and defines and maintains internal processes. Establishes customer service standards and addresses operational and customer service escalations. Serves as a champion of enterprise-Works on highly complex projects and enterprise-wide research initiatives. Serves as a subject matter expert to internal and external stakeholders regarding protocol requirements and problem-solving related to clinical, logistical, financial and/or regulatory issues, as well as with programs, processes and best practices.
- Manages communications to the organization on research related projects and topics. Maintains effective working relationships with peers, stakeholders and leadership across the organization.
- Assigns and reviews work, provides work instruction to on-the-job or formal training, and develops team members. Evaluates performance of team members, providing continuous feedback. Accountable for managing entire employee lifecycle of team, including hiring, development, performance management, discipline and termination.
- Manages resource allocation, budgets and financial performance of assigned team. Builds and maintains strong understanding of department and organizational financials, leads efforts to maximize return on budgets per work performed and collaborates across leadership team to improve future financial and operational projections and structures to maximize return and achieve sustainability.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulation, as well as with contract, sponsor, organizational standards and/or Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol.
- Accountable for the development, implementation, maintenance and adherence of departmental strategies, policies, procedures and best practices. Monitors overall compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies.
- Develops, coordinates, and/or delivers technical orientation and ongoing training, in addition to managing the credentialing of all team members.
- Collaborates with stakeholders and decision makers to foster collaboration in research operations, planning, budgeting, strategy, and communications across the enterprise. Conceptualizes, articulates, and gains support for a variety of initiatives and programs.
- Accountable for business development and growth involving research at both a local and national level.
Salary Information
Annual Salary Range $97,718.13 to $146,577.19
