Job Summary:

The University of Colorado Department of Pediatric Orthopedics has an opening for an Entry Level Clinical Services Research Professional. The primary focus of this position will be to provide research coordination, management, and laboratory support for Principal Investigators who are attending physicians and/or professors at the University of Colorado and/or Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Clinical Science Professionals perform clinical research related functions which includes patient-oriented research or research conducted with human subjects. Patient-oriented research includes mechanisms of human disease, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, or development of new technologies. Clinical Science Professionals may also assist with epidemiologic and behavioral studies and/or outcomes research and health services research. Additionally, this position will provide laboratory support within a basic science laboratory, the focus of which will be collecting, processing and storing human biological samples collected for research purposes. The position is part of the Musculoskeletal Research Center.

These positions are housed within Children's Hospital Colorado Anschutz and may require occasional travel to network of care clinics throughout the Denver metro area.

Supervision Received: This position will report directly to the Research Program Manager Deirdre Rafferty and indirectly to the principal investigator, as directed by the research manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Entry

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of clinical trials and studies
  • Obtain study subject’s medical history and current medication information, reviews research protocol inclusion/exclusion criteria, and confirms eligibility of subject to participate in research study
  • Perform informed consent process or ensures that the informed consent process has occurred, is properly documented, and that informed consent form documents are filed as required
  • Interact with prospective subjects for a variety of research studies. Educate potential subjects on the details of the studies through phone contacts and personal interaction
  • Schedule subject participation in research studies, coordinating availability of necessary space, and clinical research management (e.g., physician, nurse practitioner, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy)
  • Collect, code, and analyze data obtained from research in an accurate and timely manner
  • All research professionals within the Musculoskeletal Research Center are required to serve on one committee, related to advancing the mission of the MRC

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado. Occasional travel to other clinics within the Denver metro area may be required.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or health related field
  • Previous experience with software programs such as REDCap, OnCore and EPIC are preferred.
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems)
  • Experience processing human biological samples in a laboratory setting
  • Clinical research or related experience
  • Basic science research or related experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Ability to effectively navigate multiple studies and prioritize appropriately
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Highly self-directed and organized with a strict attention to detail
  • Commitment to the research mission of the Department of Orthopedics and the Musculoskeletal Research Center

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as Entry level - $47,087-$59,891.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
