Cloud Ops Engineer

We have a unique opportunity for a full-time Cloud Ops Engineer to join our DevOps team to design and build cutting-edge cloud-based infrastructure to support our software solutions.

The Opportunity

As a Cloud Ops Engineer, you will consult and contribute to business process improvements of cloud operation tools, security controls, and infrastructure. You will also conduct research and Proof of Concept activities and provide recommendations for new technologies, techniques, and tools to add value by increasing efficiency while improving service quality. You will report to the Head of Architecture and DevOps and work closely with members of the product and technology teams.

The Day-to-Day

• Design and manage scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure and automation tooling for routine operation tasks
• Work with solution architects, software engineers, DevOps engineers, and business partners to confirm that developed solutions align with existing standards, meet security controls, and meet cloud computing best practices
• You will identify appropriate SLIs and configure monitoring, ensuring a reliable, scalable, secure, performant, and cost-effective platform for our customers
• Datacenter and ISP evaluation onboarding, and management
• Capacity planning
• Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management, and centralized secrets storage to automate the provisioning and management of infrastructure, ensuring consistent and repeatable environments
• Oversee installation, configuration, patching, and updating of operating systems to ensure reliable, secure, performant, and cost-effective operation
• Manage virtualization platforms and hypervisors
• Optimize resource allocation to ensure efficient utilization of hardware capabilities
• Manage container orchestration systems that enable automated deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications
• Ensure adherence to security and compliance requirements.
• Drive cost optimization across the entire platform.
• Provide both mentorship and technical leadership to the team.

Your Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in IT Infrastructure cross-platform technology areas, with implementing and maintaining expertise
• 2+ years of experience building, deploying, and managing AWS public cloud IaaS and PaaS services
• Experience building an automated cloud infrastructure across Prod and Non-Prod environments
• Experience with Linux operating system internals and architecture, including kernel modules, filesystems, process management, and networking
• In-depth understanding of networking layers, protocols, services, and security practices
• Experience in evaluating, qualifying, and managing server hardware and capacity planning
• In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS or Fargate preferred) and AWS Services, in particular Compute, API Gateway, and Storage services
• Scripting and automation of builds, workflows, tasks and other integration aspects using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tool sets including (e.g. Terraform (preferred), Ansible, Puppet, and Chef)
• Expertise with monitoring and alerting systems (Cloudwatch, Datadog)
• Experience with VCS systems and providers (Git, Github)
• In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS or Fargate preferred) and AWS Services, in particular Compute, API Gateway, and Storage services
• Familiarity with the AWS well-architected framework
• Experience with ticket management systems (Jira, Confluence)
• Ability to make and explain thoughtful decisions based on sound, logical, analytical, data-driven reasoning
