Club Controller

Job Summary:

The Club Controller is responsible for all aspects of accounting for the Club activities of Wasatch Peaks Ranch, with guidance and support from the finance and accounting teams.

Duties, Responsibilities and Focus:

  • Maintains the Club’s books, day-to-day financial transactions, and ensures that all company transactions and assets are recorded
  • Act as an integral team member for all Club department managers, serving as a trusted thought partner to drive strategic initiative and enhance decision-making processes
  • Directs and coordinates the preparation of the annual operating budget, monthly reporting, and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures (including all accounting software systems) and analyzes and reports variances
  • Roll-up of club accounting budgets, forecasts, and actual results compared to budget monthly
  • Ensure timely and effective departmental reporting and adequate education to department managers on the financial aspects of their departments including budget comprehension, projections, and variance controls
  • Directs the preparation of the capital budget and planning including leasing, reserves, and replacements. Determines applicable depreciation and recovery rates to apply to capitalized assets and advises management on such matters
  • Collaborates with department heads on the programming of club management software (particularly the accounting module), monitors for necessary updates; troubleshoots as necessary (with internal and external IT support) issues with the point-of-sale back office, internet, and servers
  • Works with the Accounting Teams to prepare monthly intercompany reconciliations
  • Assistance in annual audit and tax compliance
  • Manages cash and banking functions
  • Works with the Club insurance broker and CFO/Associate General Counsel on Club insurance coverages
  • Maintaining and keeping compliance on all licenses and compliance with all Federal, State and local corporate, payroll and other applicable taxes
  • Performs other duties as assigned by CFO

Classification:

  • Full-time, Exempt

Required Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting preferred
  • Experience: 5 + years of accounting experience in a community, club and/or resort industry; public accounting experience a plus
  • Strong knowledge of financial statements and “GAAP” accounting principles, the Internal Revenue Code and state taxation requirements, and assures recording of all transactions in compliance thereof
  • Knowledge and experience with Club specific software preferred
  • Multi-tasking and time management skills to organize workflow and manage multiple deadlines in fast paced environment
  • Advanced analytical skills to interpret financial data
  • Thorough experience using excel spreadsheet creation for financial budgets, analysis, and forecasting
  • Experience supervising staff and working across departments
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Communication skills - ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software
