Job Summary

As an Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and managing commercial property and liability risks. You'll handle the selection, analysis, and pricing of new business, while also focusing on renewing and managing an existing portfolio. Your goal will be to maintain high standards of service and accuracy throughout the underwriting process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage your book of business by evaluating submissions and making informed decisions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain well-organized electronic underwriting files following our guidelines.
  • Build and nurture relationships with brokers by responding promptly and clearly to their requests.
  • Review and process upcoming renewals thoroughly and ensure that nonrenewal notices and renewal quotes are accurate and issued on time.
  • Oversee the ongoing management of your existing portfolio.
  • Provide effective supervision and support to Underwriting Assistant(s).

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Property & Casualty (P&C) license preferred, required for California residents.
  • At least five years of relevant experience with a solid understanding of commercial property/casualty coverages and services.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong skills in Excel and Adobe, and experience with database rating.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive internal and external relationships.
  • Strong negotiation and sales skills, with the capability to deliver challenging messages when necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and self-motivation with a strong work ethic.
