Commercial Property & Liability Underwriter - Remote | WFH

Summary

As an Underwriter, you'll play a crucial role in evaluating, documenting, pricing, and managing both new and renewal business for commercial property and liability insurance. You'll be responsible for risk selection and maintaining a strong portfolio, all while providing excellent service to our valued partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Management: Evaluate submissions and make decisions aligned with guidelines, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Organized Records: Keep thorough and well-organized electronic underwriting files according to established guidelines.
  • Broker Relations: Foster positive relationships with assigned brokers by responding promptly and clearly communicating underwriting decisions.
  • Renewals Management: Review and assess upcoming renewals diligently, issuing non-renewal notices and renewal quotes in a timely manner.
  • Ongoing Management: Oversee the management of your existing portfolio and supervise Underwriting Assistants effectively.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Licensing: P&C license preferred; required for California residents.
  • Experience: At least five years of experience with a strong understanding of commercial property/casualty coverages and services. Experience in rating and pricing based on individual risk criteria is essential for underwriting profitability.
  • Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel and Adobe), with strong database rating skills. Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational abilities are a must.
  • Personal Traits: Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and possess strong problem-solving skills and a solid work ethic.
