Communications Intern

The Harris For President Campaign is seeking individuals who are committed to electing Kamala Harris as president to serve as interns for the Communications Team.

During this internship, you will support the national Communications Team, including drafting and sending press materials, maintaining press lists, and other duties as assigned. We are looking for folks with a variety of backgrounds and experience, and are dedicated to building a team that looks like America.

Interns are expected to work 4-6 hours per day, 5 days per week, for a total of at least 20 hours, but no more than 30 hours per week. The recommended hours are 12 PM - 6 PM EST, but schedules can include morning, evening, and weekend shifts. The internship is paid at $17 per hour. The duration of the internship will be for approximately 12 weeks, with options for different timeframes/cohorts as outlined below. Due to campaign finance restrictions, interns are not permitted to accept any other payment or thing of value for the internship without explicit approval by the Campaign.

Cohort 1: Monday, May 13 to Friday, August 2

Cohort 2: Monday, June 3 to Friday, August 16

Cohort 3: Monday, August 12 to Friday, November 1

Cohort 4: Monday, August 26 to Friday, November 8

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist communications associates with their daily responsibilities
  • Build and maintain press lists
  • Conduct research and assist communications team with daily priorities
  • Help organize incoming press requests
  • Help with the daily flow of paper through cross-departmental approvals and send out to allies, surrogates and the press
  • Draft materials for internal and external consumption, including press advisories, talking points, press releases, statements, memos and other material
  • Help coordinate and staff interviews for senior staff and surrogates
  • Other daily tasks to support the national communications team


Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Attending a four-year college
  • Interested in communications, government, politics, or public relations
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a detail-oriented manner
  • Ability to handle projects with the appropriate level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to work well under pressure with humor and grace
  • A team player that recognizes the importance of working collaboratively
  • Prior experience on a political campaign
