Stakeholders making key decisions for our school community must hear our voice. We must

prepare our families and staff to become advocates for their school. The Community Engagement Specialist will work with the Texas Public Charter Schools Association to bolster the advocacy work at ResponsiveEd. This position will also engage in a community of practice with a cohort of peers

from across the state. To successfully engage in advocacy, the Community Engagement Specialist will mobilize parents, teachers, and staff through training and activation. Additionally, this position

will be the bridge-builder between ResponsiveEd schools and our elected officials.


Essential Job Functions:

● Identify potential parents to become advocates for ResponsiveEd and the public charter

school movement in Texas

● Identify a teacher/teachers to become advocates for the ResponsiveEd and the public

charter school movement in Texas

● Develop and implement a training sequence for parents and teachers

● Maintain relationships with parent and teacher advocates through trainings, meetings,

group engagement, 1:1 meetings

● Cultivate relationships between state and local elected officials and parent/ teacher

advocates

● Coordinate event logistics on all state and local elected official school visits in

accordance with ResponsiveEd policy

● Track all engagement data for reporting purposes and analyze for opportunities for

improvement

● Build a relationship with our Board and lead board advocacy efforts

● Other duties as assigned


Qualities/ Qualifications:

● Strong belief in the mission of public charter schools

● Two or more years experience in grassroots organizing, stakeholder engagement, and/or

volunteer management

● Experience with social media

● Strong project management skills

● Strong relationship-building skills

● Experience managing volunteers and driving them to action

● Experience delivering high-quality professional development opportunities

● Ability to learn quickly and take on responsibility

● Ability to juggle multiple projects with a strong attention to detail

● Strong detail orientation and organizational skills are a must

● Excellent written and in-person communication skills

● Ability to travel to Austin during Legislative Session

● Knowledge of K-12 education policy issues (preferred)


Additional responsibilities based on school size and capacity:

● Develop and maintain positive relationships with community and business leaders that

will positively impact our advocacy efforts and provide resources and opportunities to our

schools

● Attend community events and increase brand awareness and messaging

● Build relationships with local elected officials

● Prepare and deliver presentations about public charter schools to community

organizations

● In coordination with our Communications Team, develop and implement an effective

communication plan to engage our charter community in advocacy efforts


Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee

encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties are normally performed in the home office, campus environment or outdoors. Travel will be required.
