Job Description
Work closely with R&D Hardware design teams and Commodity Management to formulate commodity strategies to meet NI’s current and future needs. Provide deep supply chain and supplier technology expertise to the component selection process.
As a Component Engineer, you work with various teams (including R&D) to source, select, and qualify components used in the company’s products, as an expert in component technology and sourcing risks. Act as a technical interface between component suppliers and R&D engineers, determining new and alternate sources for reduced cost or improved quality and reliability. Being a connector between R&D’s diverse technical requirements and Suppliers’ capabilities. Evaluate supplier change notifications and qualify changes, as needed. May maintain component data management system including qualification records/results/documentation.

Job Focus
- Responsible for building strong relationships with and improving the quality performance of our electronic component suppliers.
- Involved in liaising between supplier and R&D on new product development activities, quality improvements, and engineering changes.
- Understands and proactively addresses internal customers’ requirements and concerns.
- Participate and support supplier assessment and qualification activities.
- Support and align with global and regional commodity strategy.
- Effective technical resource for product/process/service with other groups.
- Implement Global Procurement strategy through cooperation between R&D and Suppliers.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong critical-thinking skills directed at analyzing and solving simple problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Passion for learning and research.
- Experience with programmable logic devices such as FPGAs and CPLDs.
- Understanding of semiconductor devices and relevant processes and parametrics.
- Comfortable with large datasets and data analysis.
- Strong technical communication.
- Experience designing electronics and working with design engineers.
