Main Purpose of Job

Provides technical support for agency personnel. Evaluating, implementing and maintaining microcomputer hardware/software. Worcester County Department of Social Services has ; 64 desk top computers, 66 laptop computers/shared printers35 network printers, 15 standalone printers, 101 desk phones, 66 I phones, and 29 iPads. Responsible for operation and maintenance of the voice data switch, internal telephone systems and local area network (LAN) at four locations. The position has overall responsibility for hardware and software configuration of Worcester County Department of Social Services network (including multiple servers) and its telecommunications system.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Installs and configures operating system software and network communications software for microcomputer or minicomputer networks; prepares and assembles technical documentation and user documentation for network software and hardware; develops and programs applications software; creates technical and user documentation for that software; installs applications and customizes as required; troubleshoots and corrects hardware and software problems; repairs and maintains PCs and peripherals in local department; troubleshoots and corrects problems with Agency telephone systems at four locations; maintains voicemail systems and repairs or replaces telephones as needed at four locations; contacts vendor to arrange for repairs as needed; troubleshoots and corrects problems with telecommunications hardware and software at four sites with LAN; reports problems to DHS Help Desk and follows up to ensure problems are corrected in a timely manner; provides technical assistance to staff who maintains performance and operability of PC Workstations, network servers, and all related peripherals.
  • Configures network software and hardware to provide for efficient and effective network performance and data security; diagnosis network software and hardware problems and makes repairs and adjustments or obtains service from software, hardware and/or maintenance vendors; runs backups of network data, archives data as required, and develops and maintains disaster recovery plans; enters users and their network privileges onto the network and provides ongoing user support; reports problems to DHS Help Desk and follows up to ensure problems are corrected in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Experience: Two years and six months of experience, one year of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks and an additional eighteen months of experience converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools; planning, installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software.

Notes

  • Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and fifteen credit hours from an accredited college or university in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the additional eighteen months of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and completion of a certification program in Network Administration, such as Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), Microsoft Certified Product Specialist NT 4.0 Administrator or equivalent certification program for the additional eighteen months of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute experience in one of the following areas on a year-for-year basis for graduation from an accredited a high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate: operating computer systems, scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage, processing data on computer systems, evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software or converting data from project specifications by developing programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree in computer information technology, management information systems, or other information technology related field, including course work in local or wide area computer networks, from an accredited college or university and one year of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Network Analyst classifications or Network Integration and Management specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Desired Or Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

One year of experience managing Windows and Apple devices with Microsoft Intune.

One year of experience managing technical projects and activities.

One year of troubleshooting and resolving technical issues for end users.
