Summary

The NY Daily News is looking for a versatile editor to work on the Metro desk, helping drive coverage of the greatest city on earth for a demanding and voracious audience. This position provides the opportunity to directly impact the success of a storied news organization at a pivotal and exciting time, with responsibilities in a wide range of areas including breaking news, crime and politics.

This position will work the following shifts, with flexibility as needed: Monday - Friday 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM.

What You Will Do

• Join the Metro desk working under the guidance and supervision of senior editors to help drive growth across all platforms, with a particular focus on helping drive content for regular digital readers of nydailynews.com; understanding how to reach and retain online readers is a critical element of this role
• Assigning and Editing Daily NewsMetro Desk content, which can include crime and breaking news, politics, education, transportation, housing, corrections and other related topics
• Editing and preparing articles, photos, videos and designs for publication on all NYDN digital platforms
• Managing content from outside sources such as wire services
• Aggregating content or writing short stories, when necessary
• Performing other production-related functions that require sharp news judgment, including programming web pages based on audience data and The Daily News’ mission
• Posting stories, galleries, and other content to nydailynews.com and affiliated platforms
• Assist in sending out newsletters and breaking news alerts
• Assist in audience development strategy, including social media, search and content performance
  
  

What You Will Bring

• Extensive headline-writing experience for all platforms
• Experience in the NY market editing Breaking News content
• Social media savvy with demonstrated experience, especially with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others
• Knowledge and interest in additional audience development strategies
• Knowledge of web tools, CMS systems, technical platforms along with analytics tools and social media metrics
• Reporting and/or editing experience, and ability to display solid news judgment, while also having in-depth knowledge of NY news and a passion for the city
• A minimum of one year editing or in audience work at a news publication or website
• Developed writing and reporting skills; excellent command of verbal and written English
• Able and willing to work irregular hours and holidays as necessary; weekend and night shifts will be required
• Tabloid experience is a plus
  
  

The hourly wage is $28.21 - $35.90. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
