Job Summary

IMI is seeking a full-time Controller local to the Athens, GA area.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Working under the direction of the COO, the Controller is a professional who specializes in business accounting and ensures that the financial records of the company comply with financial regulations, laws and policies. The Controller will coordinate and manage the daily activities of the accounting staff to ensure departmental responsibilities are conducted accurately and efficiently.

KEY WORK

• Overseeing the organization’s daily accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
• Intimately involved with financial reporting, preparing balance sheets and income statements
• Reconcile the organization’s financials monthly & quarterly
• Maintaining accounting records
• Coordinating activities of external auditors
• Managing the budget process and forecasting
• Overseeing regulatory reporting, including taxes and compliance
• Maximize payroll efficiency through innovative process development
• Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to national and local legal standards
• Hiring, training and retaining accounting staff
• Other duties as assigned
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
• At least 5 years of experience working in the area of accounting
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and industry-specific best practices
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems. Experience with construction accounting software is a plus
• Display exemplary ethical behavior when working with confidential financial documents
  
  

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

• Ability to develop and establish financial policies and procedures.
• Discretion to work with confidential and sensitive issues
• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Ability to work independently, with little to no supervision.
• Ability to analyze financial data and to prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion.
• Knowledge of policies and practices associated with personnel and payroll and benefits administration
• Advanced skill level in operating Word, Excel, Outlook, and CYMA
• Strong organizational skills, numerical proficiency, and problem-solving skills
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Sitting for extended periods of time
• Manual dexterity needed for repetitive tasks and operating standard office equipment
• Lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds
