Primary Responsibilities:

Reporting to the CEO, the Controller will be responsible for all aspects of our accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and providing insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making. The controller will hold responsibility for supervising, tracking and evaluating day-to-day activities, establishing strong internal controls, while staying abreast of changing regulations and industry best practices.


The Controller will be supporting both the transaction processing and financial reporting functions of this global organization by providing and ensuring consistent, timely, and accurate financial management and administration of Stevenson’s financial systems, processes, reporting, and records to meet Stevenson’s financial goals. S/he will assist with ensuring compliance with all appropriate regulatory, policy, legal, and financial requirements in the US, UK, and across Europe.


The Controller will play a vital role in the financial health of our growing firm. S/he is an extremely detail and process-oriented individual with a demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. S/he will also provide visibility to financial cash flow to assist with securing and maintaining the long-term financial viability and stability of the organization. S/he is intellectually curious with a desire to learn about Stevenson’s business model.



Key responsibilities:

  • Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting and finance functions such as month and year end processes; accounts payable, receivables, and collections control; cash receipts, payroll processing; treasury, budgeting; cash forecasting; revenue and expenditure variance analysis; monthly reconciliations; trust account statement reconciliations; fixed asset activity; debt activity.
  • Establishing financial status by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting information.
  • Monitoring and analyzing accounting data and producing financial reports, system dashboards, and statements.
  • Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
  • Establishing and enforcing proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
  • Stays current on legislative changes and planning opportunities and ideas.
  • In partnership with the Executive Search Partner/Principal team and Interim team, review client contracts (SOWs).
  • Generate, send, and follow up on invoices to clients in a timely manner.
  • Cash flow management, month-end, and year-end financial/management reporting and processes, quarterly financial schedules, etc.
  • Reconcile invoices and bills and verify balances to the general ledger.
  • Manage quarterly commission plans and payouts across the teams.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable monthly closing process. Expected to understand the receivables cycle from beginning to end.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients to facilitate inquiries regarding billing.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure compliance with external stakeholders and constituents including the annual financial and single audits.
  • Complete special projects as necessary that may be assigned.
  • Act as an ongoing strategic partner to the CEO, thoughtfully and responsibly assisting in stewarding the organization’s assets and revenue, and ensuring goals, strategies, and risk tolerance are in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values.


Skills and Requirements:

  • 5+ years of corporate finance experience ideally within professional services.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Knowledge of US and UK payroll with the ability to understand complex commission plans.
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations.
  • Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information.
  • Experience working in QuickBooks, Ascend and other financial and HR platforms. Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and PowerPoint. Advanced skills in Excel.
  • Ability to operate effectively in multiple systems/databases. A quick study and eager to learn our commission and revenue tracking system within our database (Invenias).
  • Innate curiosity with high intellect and desire to constantly learn.
  • Experience working in client services with execution excellence and service mindset and a focus on delivery.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to provide excellent customer service to business colleagues and clients.
  • Self-motivated, highly detail-oriented, and organized, with strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly demanding and fluid environment.
  • Driven by personal excellence, ethics, and pride in one’s work.
  • Strong work ethic and professional dedication.
