The Advancement team cultivates, solicits, and stewards individuals, as well as foundation, government and corporate partners who invest in the Society to drive impact through science, technology, education, exploration, and storytelling. The team collaborates with Society teams – and often works closely with NGP/Disney – to build transformative and impact-driven strategic partnerships. The team also produces global events that deepen connections and leverage the Society’s power to convene, and directs robust annual, major and planned giving programs empowering the Society with a broad base of public support.

The Annual Giving and Membership team is responsible for acquiring, retaining, and upgrading donors in support of the National Geographic Society mission to use the power of science, exploration, education, and storytelling to illuminate and protect the wonder of our world.

Reporting to the Vice President, Annual Giving & Membership, the Coordinator will work collaboratively to provide support across the Annual Giving & Membership team and play a significant role in the department’s growth. The Coordinator will assist with a variety of administrative tasks for the team, as well as help with fundraising and marketing activities across a range of projects. In addition, the Coordinator will provide direct assistance to the Vice President, helping with scheduling, presentations, budgeting, and team meetings, among other related responsibilities. Your Impact

Responsibilities Include

Member & Donor Engagement (15%)

  • Serves as a back-up for reviewing and responding to incoming National Geographic Society donor inquiries and requests by responding to emails, phone calls, and letters and tracking interactions appropriately.
  • Provides a high level of service in all interactions with donors and supporters to help build or maintain strong relationships.
  • Updates donor contact information in the database, when needed, with excellent attention to detail.


Administrative & Coordinator Projects (80%)

  • Assists the Vice President with administrative tasks, including scheduling meetings, updating documents, preparing reports and presentations, and other related tasks.
  • Assists the entire AGM team with administrative tasks, including filing expense reports, scheduling large meetings, updating recurring reports, aiding with project management of signature campaigns, and supporting on-site and off-site events (both internal and donor-facing) by helping with room set-up, scheduling, catering, donor welcomes, etc.
  • Serves as team lead for processing vendor invoices, onboarding new vendors with NGS, maintaining an organized expense-tracking system while developing and maintaining relationships with key internal departments and vendors to ensure invoices are processed in a timely manner, monthly finance inquiries are addressed quickly, and vendor contracts are entered and/or updated annually.
  • Serves as team lead to execute in-house mailings, such as special invitations, donor benefit fulfillment, and special requests.
  • Assist with fundraising activities across the range of direct response projects, including email, direct mail, advertising and other activities.

What You’ll Bring

Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Minimum Years And Type Of Experience

2+ years of experience in a marketing, sales, customer service, or administrative role.

Desired Qualifications

  • Successful experience working collaboratively with colleagues across multiple diverse teams to drive activity that achieves or exceeds individual and team goals
  • Working knowledge of Raiser's Edge, Marketing Cloud, Engaging Networks (or similar) database preferred
  • Proficiency in Office Suite (Word/Excel) and Google Workspace

Salary Information

National Geographic Society offers a competitive and holistic total rewards package. Our compensation structure and transparent pay philosophy are based on industry-specific market data for similar sized nonprofit organizations.

The hourly range for this position is $22.93 - $26.92.

Job Designation

Hybrid - At the Society, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are Hybrid. Our Hybrid category requires that staff work at Base Camp two days each week: every Tuesday and Wednesday. Hybrid staff are also always welcome to come in additional days each week if preferred.
