Base pay range

$70,000.00/yr - $90,000.00/yr
The Atlantic is looking for an experienced crossword puzzle editor responsible for editing and promoting The Atlantic crossword and crafting occasional weekend puzzles. Duties may also include collaborating with other departments to develop promotional puzzles and leading an expansion of the Atlantic’s crossword offerings.

This is an opportunity to help shape and grow a crucial product at a trusted media brand with wide-reaching habitual daily users. In addition to working on puzzles, this role will allow you to work cross-functionally with editorial, product design, engineering, and marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Revise and edit the daily mini grids and clues for digital publication.
  • Manage and edit the weekend contributor rotation.
  • Construct 2-3 small weekend themeless puzzles per month.
  • Maintain the quality and difficulty-level of all Atlantic crosswords.
  • Participate/be available for community engagement on games.
  • Share point of view on controversial topics and flag potential issues and solutions early in the editing process.
  • Work with the corrections team to respond to reader feedback and questions.
  • Grow the puzzle section in accordance with the larger games strategy.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years editing puzzles for publication
  • An appreciation for word games and puzzles
  • Basic experience with digital production, and basic knowledge of web tools and interfaces.
  • Basic knowledge of journalism ethics and standards

Salary Minimum: $70,000; Salary Maximum: $90,000

Location: NY/DC Preferred
