For the past 223 years, The Post has evolved into a multi-platform media company spanning print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce.


The New York Post video team is seeking a Daily News Video Producer (Mon-Fri 8am-4pm) who is a smart, enthusiastic news-lover with a passion about current events of all kinds. The producer must have a keen editorial sense and commitment to accuracy, while working on tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. They will work on gathering video for numerous breaking stories throughout the day on a wide variety of topics, as well as creating original evergreen content for our site. This role is pivotal in providing our readers with engaging video to keep them informed on what’s happening in the world.


This position is a hybrid role with three days in the office and includes a three (3) month probation period. After successful completion of the probation period, the employee would transition from full-time temp to full-time with benefits.


Qualifications:

  • Must have exceptional editorial judgment, with 3+ years experience working in a fast-paced news environment on deadlines.
  • Experience with copy-editing and overseeing videos from start to finish.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to quickly write clear and concise scripts for videos based on assets and information you have gathered.
  • Strong research skills in finding videos online, via social media and through licensing agencies, as well as digging deeper into stories.
  • Skilled at working independently, while also demonstrating strong communication skills and being a strong team player.
  • A great eye for stories that are about to trend, and ability to think creatively about the best video approaches for these stories as well as on evergreen topics.
  • Natural at juggling multiple tasks at once.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Understand and appreciate the voice of the New York Post.
  • Comfortable with reaching out to people, clearing video and conducting interviews.
  • Adobe Premiere a plus.
  • Be willing to work holidays, nights and big tentpole events when needed.


Responsibilities:

  • Monitor New York Post articles in the pipeline, coming up with a video approach for them and then adding videos into those stories using our video player (JW Player) and Wordpress, including relevant tags.
  • Write scripts for stories, along with snappy SEO-driven headlines and descriptions.
  • Research video for dozens of stories per day, utilizing our library, licensing agencies, the internet and social media.
  • Pitch video-led stories, both for breaking news and evergreen content.
  • Conduct interviews, MOS and lead studio shoots for original content on evergreen topics.
  • Monitor emails, slacks and other communication sent to the video team and respond accordingly, being a key point of contact between the video team and greater newsroom.
  • Be knowledgeable about what is available in our video library, as well as through wire services and social media throughout the day, so you can pitch video-led stories.
  • Reaching out to clear video from original sources that you will find on various social media platforms.
  • Assist in various facets of production.
  • Strategize for growth on various platforms.
  • Continually tweak our playlists and channel layout for video discovery.
