Job Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

To supervise and evaluate department chairs and staff in academic departments within the Arts & Science Division; through the department chairs, program/academic directors and divisional faculty, coordinate development of academic schedules for the division that meet the needs of students; administer create cooperation, trust, and teamwork.

  • Curriculum: Monitor programs and enrollment trends to ensure effective use of manpower and other allocated resources; conduct periodic reviews of existing programs; and develop and recommend new programs as appropriate. Recommendations will be made to the Vice President regarding the need for potential new programs and/or elimination/consolidation of existing programs.
  • Schedule: Assume responsibility for the development, consolidation, and distribution of the divisions' semester course schedules. Schedules will be developed and proofed as required according to published timelines. Enrollment patterns in previous semesters will be reviewed and recommendations made to department chairs regarding adding removing courses to best meet student needs and enrollment patterns.
  • Personnel: Screen and recommend permanent faculty and staff, recommend salaries and salary increases, manage the evaluation system for the divisions and ensure the timely hiring and evaluation EPMS/FPMS planning stages/evaluations will be submitted on time.
  • Advising/Registration: Assume responsibility for student advising and registration activities within the divisions; hear and resolve student complaints and grievances.
  • Equipment and Property: Allocate division/departmental funds; manage divisional resources, to include budget preparation, approval of operational and personnel expenditures and equipment purchases; maintain up-to-date equipment inventory; ensure appropriate equipment placement and usage; and predict long-range equipment needs. By means of a divisional budget for Arts and Sciences, funds will be allocated to the department chairs; each program’s status will be monitored through the dean’s office periodically through the year. Requests for expenditures will be approved consistent with the divisional priorities.
  • Teaching Performance: Maintain high standard of classroom performance. One course may be taught each year serving as a role model for faculty within the divisions.
  • Professional Development: Assume leadership role in developing professional and personal competencies so as to improve knowledge, skills, and proficiency in present position; develop and implement plans that promote professional growth of faculty and staff within the divisions. Changes will be monitored within the Arts and Sciences area and training, in-service and other related educational activities will be recommended to maintain professional growth for faculty and staff, to include the dean.
  • College and/or Community Service: Assume leadership role in supporting the College by working on committees and/or performing public service for the community. Contacts will be maintained with related communities of interest to include committee membership as requested and/or public service as opportunities arise.
  • Marketing: Assume leadership role in the College's marketing efforts; take responsibility for departmental advisory committees. Updates will be provided to the College President and/or Commission as needed; advisory committees will be monitored and meetings will be attended.
  • Division Management: Assist the Provost with related duties as assigned. Regularly scheduled staff meetings will be attended.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

Master's Degree in a related discipline plus six years of progressively responsible related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate Degree and experience in a community/technical college.
