Position Overview

This is a critical role in our pursuit of ensuring that each and every one of our students has the skills and mindsets needed to achieve and feel confident as mathematicians, problem-solvers, and critical thinkers!

The school-based math coach and interventionist is a member of the school team and designed to both provide direct intervention to students and to support a cohort of math teachers. The work of math intervention is designed to teach and accelerate student learning for those students performing below grade level benchmarks and standards. The work of peer coaching support will be guided by the school principal, with a focus on supporting teachers in planning, lesson internalization, and responsive teaching. This is an exempt position and reports to the school principal. This role is paid on our Dean scale. This position is currently designated as a 1-year role, and will be reevaluated at the end of the SY 24-25 school year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Intervention (~60%)
    • Instruct small groups of students in math; motivate, inspire, and make math meaningful
    • Monitor progress of instruction action plans with assessments, daily instructional notes and weekly summary reports
    • Analyze student data to design instructional action plans
    • Provide weekly student progress report updates to principals, teachers, students, and families
  • Peer Coaching Support (~40%)
    • From the direction of the principal and in collaboration with regional math coaches:
      • Provide thoughtful peer coaching on Eureka Math2 lessons and units
      • Support peers in the internalization of content
      • Support peers in the analysis and response to student learning data
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of three successful years lead teaching experience in math
  • Expertise in assessing, analyzing and instructing students who struggle with numeracy or mathematical fluency
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Multi Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
  • Experience with intervention programs for students who have gaps in math skills
  • Strong data analysis skills across multiple sources of data
  • Strong communication, time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent collaboration skills

Compensation And Benefits

  • When it comes to compensation, at KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. We look at compensation benchmarks in schools across DC. Salaries for this role are exempt and start at $86,238 and increase with years of experience. Please see the salary scale here (Dean and Instructional Coach scale). This role can earn up to $5,000 in renewal add-ons to their base salary each year they return to KIPP DC.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 10 paid sick days, 12 paid holidays, paid Thanksgiving week break, winter break, spring break, and part of summer summer break. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
