Colby Community College is located in northwest Kansas, approximately 50 miles from the Nebraska and Colorado borders. From a humble beginning of 99 students in 1964, CCC now serves more than 2,000 students annually.

In addition to a 57-acre main campus, a 60-acre farm is used as a hands-on laboratory and training facility. The College also accommodates hundreds of off-campus students through face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.

A number of studies conclude that CCC is a solid educational investment. Colby has a strong history of student performance and has the best graduation and retention rates among Kansas community colleges.

Job Description

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA), the Dean of Online Learning and Institutional Effectiveness is responsible for providing leadership for the online learning operations (of Colby Community College (CCC). The position provides leadership and support in the design, quality development, delivery, and assessment of courses offered in online delivery formats (including fully online, hyflex, blended, and technology-enhanced courses). This is a 12-month position with an annual evaluation cycle.

This position is responsible for the evaluation, assessment, and implementation of technology solutions to support instructional and support services for existing and emerging learning environments, including developing metrics and tools to track student success and retention in online, hybrid, and blended courses. This position facilitates the highest quality online course support, course development, student and faculty training, instructional support, and the selection, piloting, implementation, and maintenance of academic technology initiatives. Collaboratively working with the VPAA, faculty, and staff, this position serves to further develop the environment necessary to support the delivery of high-quality online academic programming, as well as the further integration of technology into teaching and learning.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • At the direction of the VPAA, provide Collegewide operational support for developing all online academic programming.
  • Ensure compliance with regional accreditation and regulatory standards related to online learning (i.e., HLC and NC-SARA). Ensure accessibility in compliance with Disability Support Services and Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Develop and implement Key Performance Indicators that evaluate the quality and effectiveness of online services for faculty and students.
  • Regularly evaluate the efficacy of the online learning program (through LMS metrics, learner performance, systemic change, etc.).
  • In collaboration with the VPAA, develop and oversee a professional development program to assist faculty teaching online.
  • Support and enhance the LMS Help Desk; Provide the highest level of service to students, faculty, and staff; Implement and maintain a variety of technology solutions to support online learning.
  • Provide faculty with support, resources, trainings, and best practices in support of their efforts to develop and maintain in-demand online programming.
  • Continuously work to improve the online student experience by ensuring online learners have access to support services and resources they need to be successful.
  • Provide research and recommendations for academic technology that meets immediate and future online teaching and learning needs.
  • Assist the VPAA in conducting research, writing, and compiling data.
  • Collect, compile, and maintain institutional data, and regularly update, analyze, and publish data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of accurate and timely compliance reports to third-party agencies (KBOR, IPEDS, etc.).
  • Provide support to the VPAA in institutional planning, accreditation, evaluation, and effectiveness.
  • Assist the VPAA in overseeing program scope and sequencing.
  • Serve on and participate in relevant College meetings and committees.
  • Work collaboratively with the VPAA to prepare and present in-service programs and activities.
  • As assigned by the VPAA, regularly participate in recruitment efforts and student-focused events as the College’s representative for online learning (some evening and weekend participation is required).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SALARY

$65,000-$75,000, depending on credentials and experience.

Qualifications

MINIMUM

  • Master’s degree
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, particularly in pedagogy, academic technology, and instructional design.
  • Knowledge of online education revenue and enrollment growth strategies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement processes using appropriate methods to identify opportunities, implement solutions, and measure impact.
  • Ability to help support institutional research and analysis.
  • A proven track record of creating a climate of openness and mutual respect.
  • Ability to work in a team-focused manner across the College.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to anticipate and respond to future online education developments, technological advances, and to use various educational technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, as well as with the regulations and goals of the institution.

Preferred

  • Doctoral degree.
  • Experience working with a diverse student and faculty population.
  • Ability to secure alternative funding sources to ensure the growth and sustainability of distance education programs.
