Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 depending on experience

Job Description

DailyMail.com is seeking an experienced and talented Deputy Science Editor to join its Science team in New York. Suitable candidates must have at least five years’ previous experience at a national news outlet.

The individual should be able to demonstrate an impressive track record of finding and breaking exclusive science & tech stories of national and global interest.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Find and pitch exclusive content
  • Write and edit to extremely tight deadlines
  • Edit our Science channel
  • Plan and develop long-term news stories and events
  • Oversee a team of reporters when the Editor is away

A strong track record of news gathering, editing, and managing a team is essential, together with an understanding of digital 24-hour news and the processes and pressures that come with operating in this environment.

Outstanding candidates should also be able to demonstrate their ability to balance editorial objectives in a fast-paced news environment.

Other key requirements include:

  • Ability to digest complex scientific papers and subjects
  • Knowledge of key science and tech trends
  • Passion for the DailyMail.com brand, its editorial voice, and global audience
  • Capability to write and edit in a pressurized environment
  • Applicable knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources
  • Must have a strong passion for finding the most interesting information to surface for our readership
  • Strong communication skills to direct and work collaboratively with a global team of editorial executives and co-workers

PTO: Standard allowance is 15 days plus one day per every year of service capped at 20 days. Public holidays are not included in this allowance. They are in addition.

Dailymail.com operates a 24/7 newsroom, and flexibility will be required to work shifts according to the demands of the news cycle.
