The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County was the first museum in L.A. to open its doors 111 years ago and is poised for an exciting new era as it plans for the future. Having recently completed a new strategic framework, the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County—including NHMLA at Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits and museum in mid-Wilshire, and the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall—is looking forward to new building projects and campaigns, exhibitions, community outreach, and innovative audience engagement.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Designer for our Creative Services department. The Designer works closely with the Creative Director to implement the creative concepts for projects and initiatives – creating all elements of the organization’s holistic vision by executing projects from research to production. Working in the Creative Studio, which serves as an in-house design agency to the museum, the Designer works on many projects at one time. This role gathers research for potential applications, strategic frameworks or visualization as well as executing projects. This role is directed to develop multiple concepts and also collaborates as part of a team of designers and in close collaboration with the Marketing team. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops digital and print marketing design concepts for museum-wide events, exhibitions, campaigns and initiatives;
  • Translates creative concepts into various assets, ensuring consistency with the brand's aesthetic vision;
  • Presents work and collaborates with senior creatives to refine and finalize designs;
  • Ensures all creative output meets brief requirements and brand standards;
  • Collaborates with internal teams on design projects from concept phase through completion;
  • Works with outside vendors such as printers, apparel and signage companies to create files that are in line with production specifications;
  • Creates presentation decks and presents to internal clients and Creative team.

This Position Has The Following Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience
  • University/Bachelor’s degree in the field of design or equivalent required
  • 100% hands-on design/production work
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite; Figma a plus
  • Retouching and photo imaging skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Manages multiple projects with critical deadlines
  • Assigned as Mentor for development of junior staff
  • Demonstrates strong presentation skills with an understanding of design strategy methods and practice.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience and commitment working with a diverse community. Hourly rate for this position is $33.99 ($70,694.88 Annually) plus excellent benefits. This is a Full- Time Regular, non-exempt position.
