THE ROLE

As FP&A Commercial Finance Director – Commercial, you will play a crucial role in leading and managing the financial aspects of our FP&A Commercial team. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, business acumen, the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and work daily with the Senior Management team.

The FP&A Commercial Finance Director will report directly to the Global Head of FP&A while supporting various ELT members and he/she will be responsible for overseeing financial performance of retail sales, strategic initiatives, business performance, planning, budgeting, forecasting, business case reviews and financial analysis specific to commercial operations.

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic leader, with a solid background in finance, preferably within the retail industry, and demonstrated expertise in driving financial performance and operational efficiency.

What You’ll Do

  • Investment Decision Support: Build or Review business cases for strategic initiatives and projects. Ensure that assumptions are attainable and aligned. Standardize, improve and promote investment decision methodologies. Track investment and operating budgets. Partner with both the Global team and the Data & Analytics (D&A) team to offer a clear financial lens when interpreting the results of pilot project tests.
  • Financial Modelling: Build financial models to map potential outcomes of business cases to financial statements (P&L, FCF, etc.). Identify and review key drivers and assumptions. Partner with FP&A CAPEX team to optimize company’s investments to maximize financial impact.
  • Performance Management: Establish and execute financial measurement methodologies for various strategic initiatives and pilot projects. Analyze and organize results into clear and effective messaging for various internal stakeholders. Partner with initiative or project owners to provide insights on variances to targets through financial analyses. Highlight key financial metrics and trends and provide meaningful insights and recommendations to senior management on key financial results.
  • Data & Analytics Prioritization: Implement and lead the execution of the D&A Prioritization process. Acting as the liaison between D&A and the business, prioritize D&A workstreams based on urgency of requests, potential business impact, and alignment with company strategy.
  • Leadership: Lead and develop a team of financial professionals. Maintain alignment with Global Teams leadership to ensure ideal finance business partnership between the team and the business. Identify opportunities to enhance FP&A processes, tools, and workflows. Collaborate with cross-functional partners to drive innovation and efficiency improvements.
  • Communication and Relationship Building: Effectively synthesize and communicate financial models and analyses to internal stakeholders. Grow and actively nurture network of internal business partners. Effectively lead without formal authority and influence decisions based on data and analysis.
  • Budgeting: Lead the annual budgeting process for the commercial teams, ensuring alignment with overall company goals and strategy. Prepare accurate and timely financial forecasts, identifying potential risks and opportunities. Ensure BUs are aligned with the strategic objectives and assumptions.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of long-term business strategies. Provide financial guidance and insights to support strategic decision-making process.

What You’ll Need

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business. Canadian CPA or CFA highly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in FP&A, Financial Reporting, Accounting, or other relevant financial role. Prior management experience highly preferred

Knowledge And Skills

  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of FP&A and accounting principles, including financial modeling, forecasting and accounting concepts. Experience with financial planning and consolidation tools an asset (e.g. Longview, PDI, JDE).
  • Strong knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Smartsheet. Basic knowledge of data concepts, analytics tools, and visualization platforms (e.g., SQL, Power BI).
  • Data Proficiency: Possess a good understanding of data concepts, analytics methodologies, and data visualization techniques. Leverage this knowledge to facilitate discussions between business and D&A teams.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent English verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, at all levels of management.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Adept at building and nurturing relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Innovative: Demonstrated ability to identify and drive process improvements and innovative solutions.
  • Comfortable driving actions and taking responsibility to secure desired outcomes
  • Able and willing to travel internationally, on occasion.
