Director Health Safety

Position: Director of Health & Safety
Function and Scope: The Director of Health & Safety is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing safety and health programs and policies. This role involves collaborating with employees to implement accident prevention methods and ensure a safe working environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement safety policies to reduce occupational injuries and illnesses.
- Develop and present safety and health training programs to increase workforce understanding of safety hazard control and health risks.
- Oversee all Regional Safety Managers and their safety departments.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety and health standards.
- Recognize hazardous conditions and unsafe acts, determine their causes, and implement appropriate corrective measures.
- Be proficient in using and calibrating safety-related equipment, such as noise level meters, light meters, anemometers, etc.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- BS degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in the safety field within an industrial setting, paper is prefered.
- Ability to travel: 65%
Knowledge/Competencies:
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards, Workers' Compensation Laws, EPA regulations, and industrial hygiene practices.
- Hans-on people facing leadership position.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prepare and present training sessions to all levels of mill employees on occupational safety and health topics.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Strong organizational and business acumen.
- Technical proficiency in safety-related equipment and procedures.
