Director of Adult Education

Job Description: EdAdvance seeks an individual for the role of Director of Adult Education. The role requires leadership, strategic planning, and direct management to guarantee the success and efficiency of adult education initiatives. It encompasses various responsibilities, including oversight of programs such as Adult Secondary Education programs including Credit Diploma, National External Diploma and GED review, Adult Basic Education, Citizenship, and English for Speakers of Other Languages. The Director is responsible for day-to-day program operations, collaboration with workforce partners, and ensuring compliance with state and federal mandates, community outreach, and professional development efforts for teachers and staff.

Major Responsibilities

  • Oversee state-mandated programming to ensure compliance with state and federal mandates, regulations, and licensures.
  • Manage the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding process for certified teachers.
  • Conduct formal observations and evaluations of staff annually, ensuring compliance with state and board mandates.
  • Ensure timely submission and review of lesson plans, forms, and certificates.
  • Develop and evaluate curriculum and instructional supports, providing guidance and support to staff specific to the curriculum.
  • Develop and implement appropriate professional development for all staff, monitoring, and recording completion of mandatory training.
  • Create meeting content for staff meetings in the fall and spring.
  • Determine class times and assignments across various host district locations
  • Participate in ongoing training locally, regionally, and nationally for updates and related professional development opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Program Facilitator, Counselor, Data Manager, Site Coordinators, Teachers, and Staff.
  • Program development and collaboration with various community agencies and partnerships, such as Advisory Council, Community Partners, WIOA, AJC, NRWIB, and BSU-DOL.
  • Handle marketing, advertising, and networking responsibilities, including workforce partners.
  • Monitor financial budgets and payroll processes.
  • Create appropriate state reports and manage grant preparation, submission, and reporting (ED-244, ED-245, PEP).
  • Act as the department's representative at community events and open houses.
  • Participate in CSDE-designated Director meetings.
  • Attend EdAdvance Leadership Council meetings as required.
  • Collaborate on the brochure development in the fall and spring.

  • Engage in continuous improvement through participation in webinars, workshops, events, etc.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers, adeptly handling inquiries.
  • Possess a self-starting attitude, creative thinking abilities, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Stay current on best practices relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and respect for the confidential nature of information.
  • Proficiently use technology programs for creating, tracking, and implementing programs.
  • Experience in developing relationships with required community partners and agencies.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree, teaching certification 092 required for teacher supervision and evaluation, with a minimum of five years of teaching or related educational experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in adult and continuing education, supplementary education programs, community outreach, and program development.
  • Familiarity with the CT Competency System (CCS) and experience with adult learning populations is preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in program planning, organizing, budgeting, and teacher/program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and written communication skills, initiative, and collaborative problem-solving abilities.

Travel: Travel to EdAdvance Adult Education program sites and statewide adult education agencies for meetings and training sessions, as well as attend various conferences both in-state and out-of-state.
