Description:


Heights Hill Mental Health Service, SBPC, Community Advisory Board (CAB) is the not for profit partner of the Heights Hill Mental Health Service located (now the Elm Place Clinic) in downtown Brooklyn. Since 2001 we have operated mental health support programs targeting low/no income LGBTQ+ persons who are living with serious mental illness citywide. CAB offices and program space are located at Elm Place in Downtown Brooklyn Please visit our website - www.rainbowheights.org - for more information about our services and programs.


Our clients (members) are LGBTQ+ adult individuals who are living with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, major depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, developmental disability, and substance/alcohol use concerns. 

Through our peer based Rainbow Heights Club consumer drop in center (now including Community Oriented Recovery and Empowerment [CORE] services), our EQuality Care mental health provider trainings, and our Peer Specialist Internship’s, CAB programming helps to identify and address the barriers to care experienced by low/no income LGBTQ+ persons living with serious mental illness. 


Position Summary:


The Director of Community Engagement (DCE) is a Full Time (40hrs per week, overtime exempt) position which reports to the Deputy Executive Director. The DCE is a member of the Senior Management Team, which meets weekly. This is a 100% “in office” position with very limited opportunities for remote work.


Approximately 80% of the work time of the DCE is spent developing and supervising all outreach to the varied and overlapping constituencies we serve. The DCE supervises a part time (15hrs per week) Community Engagement Coordinator who’s focus is on communication and engagement of/with consumers who are already active participants in RHC programming. The DCE also supervises a part time (10-12 hours per week) Social Media Coordinator. Approximately 20% of work time is spent giving direct support to the Executive Director, scheduling, arranging staffing for and following up on 30 to 40 EQuality Care web based mental health provider trainings throughout the year.

Effective & Engaging Communicator

The DCE will be an effective and passionate communicator and public speaker. The DCE will be comfortable articulating the clinical benefits of treating all persons in the public mental health system with respect and dignity regardless of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.


Strategic Community Collaborator

The Director of Community Engagement will:

  • Develop and implement strategies to Identify and engage diverse behavioral health providers and consumer networks throughout NYC to make them aware of the Peer based support services available for LGBTQ+ consumers with the goal of increasing consumer referrals into the Rainbow Heights Club program. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to identify community based providers of behavioral health services who seek training to improve their professional and peer employee’s ability to provide more affirming and supportive services to their LGBTQ+ consumers and prioritize those agencies requesting trainings. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to leverage our relationships with NYC providers trained by EQuality Care to increase consumer referrals into the Rainbow Heights Club Program.
  • Work within the Senior Management Team to develop goals and execute successful recruitment strategies to increase the number of CORE services delivered each year.
  • Work with the Community Engagement Coordinator to develop and implement strategies to inform and engage current and lapsed Rainbow Heights Club Members in club activities.
  • Work with the Community Engagement Coordinator to invite health and human services providers relevant to our consumers needs into the club to present on their programs and provide direct linkage opportunities to our members.
  • Provide direction for the continual evolution of digital communications platforms including web sites, email marketing, social media marketing, crowd funding, and mobile technologies. Advise and refine organizational use of corresponding analytics as appropriate.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on the numbers of consumers and providers engaged through all outreach for reporting to funders and board of directors.


Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the intersections of racial, ethnic and economic marginalization as they impact LGBTQ+ New Yorkers living with mental illness and be able to use that understanding to advance the mission of the agency.

This position requires:

  • A Masters Degree in one of the following: Social Work, Psychology, Education, Public Health or Community Organizing and a minimum of 1 year of experience working in the provision of health and human services in NYC. Note: Candidates possessing a Baccalaureate Degree in the fields noted will be considered if they have a minimum of 3 years experience working in the provision of health and human services in NYC.
  • A detail oriented person, able to work both independently and as part of a team with all levels of skills.
  • The ability to work on several projects simultaneously, prioritizing competing demands with minimal direct supervision while producing the expected results.
  • Excellent skills in networking, relationship building, public speaking, presentation development and delivery.
  • Proficiency with all current MS Office applications (including publication apps), Constant Contact Email database management, Facebook, X, and other social media platforms.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Salary and Benefits

Annual Salary Range: $85,000-$87,000

New full time staff members MAY qualify for up to a $3,000 recruitment bonus
