The mission of Gateway Public Schools is to prepare a broad range of learners for success in college and beyond by combining a rigorous academic program with an approach where the individual talents, strengths and needs of its learners are identified and supported. POSITION OVERVIEW

Gateway Public Schools seeks a Director of Facilities who is enthusiastic about improving students’ daily experience by creating and maintaining a beautiful physical environment, and who also demonstrates a high level of organization, accountability and communication skills. This key role is responsible for managing operations, projects, systems, services, and planning that supports the successful functioning of our two school campuses. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt, in-person position.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Director of Facilities reports to Gateway’s Chief Operating Officer. This position also will work closely and meet regularly with school leaders to collaborate on ensuring that our daily operations meet the needs of our students, staff and community. This position will also collaborate regularly with other functional staff that support the success of our schools. The Director of Facilities will manage a part-time general Operations Assistant.


SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $95,000 to $115,000. GPS offers an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance (employee premiums covered and additional stipends for dependents), life insurance, 6 weeks paid vacation, 10 sick days, and 14 paid holidays, professional development budget, a retirement savings plan with employer match, and, if qualified, student loan repayment support.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

We have outlined both the experience and qualifications a candidate should currently possess, and also those they are expected to develop while at Gateway. We recognize that no one person will be equally strong in every area and that some candidates will bring other strengths or experiences we haven’t described here.


The Director of Facilities will be required to be on campus to support critical periods of the school calendar, such as the beginning and end of the school year and various facilities intensive events.


Facilities Operations (60%)

The Director of Facilities is responsible for ensuring that each day our facilities are ready to meet the needs of our community.

  • Proactively identify, analyze and address Gateway’s facilities needs
  • Regularly walk each school campus to assess needs and monitor progress
  • Manage system for staff facilities requests and tracking
  • Request and manage SFUSD facilities maintenance activities
  • Coordinate all outside facilities vendors and service providers
  • Manage our janitorial contractor to ensure facilities meet our cleanliness standards
  • Manage facilities systems such as: bells and alarms, surveillance cameras, FOB access, communications
  • Provide proactive updates on future facilities changes/events/issues in a timely manner
  • Manage facilities budgets, maintain necessary records and documentation
  • Deploy and manage part-time maintenance assistant to address prioritized tasks
  • Coordinate with the schools co-located on our campuses.


School Site Operations (20%)

  • Provide oversight to our school lunch service at both schools, serve as liaison with lunch service providers
  • Work with school administration to meet the changing space needs of our students
  • Collaborate with school leaders to provide program event support
  • Conduct annual facilities survey and collect other feedback to prioritize facilities needs
  • Advance plan for the operating needs of our schools based on the school calendars


Safety and Risk Management (10%)

The role is responsible for coordinating the health, safety of our campuses and community

  • Maintain up to date knowledge around campus safety and security best practices
  • Ensure Gateway is in compliance with health and safety requirements required for CA public schools
  • Maintain Gateway’s “School Safety Plan”, train staff as necessary
  • Oversee campus emergency preparedness, including staff training and coordinating fire, earthquake and intruder drills
  • Coordinate with SFUSD to meet new school health and safety requirements for schools
  • Manage Gateway’s business insurance, ensuring we maintain appropriate/required coverage


Special Projects/Other (10%)

  • Manage all facilities projects and initiatives, collaborating with all stakeholders along the way
  • Lead the GPS Facilities Committee
  • Work with org leaders to identify long-term facilities vision for organization
  • Work with SFUSD and COO on crafting and renewing our school Facilities Usage Agreement
  • Work with CDO to ensure capital grants are executed per grant guidelines
  • Contribute to other organizational wide projects and initiatives


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Five years of experience in an operations role in schools or a non-profit organization, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated high level of accountability and follow through
  • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work and collaborate with wide range of colleagues and constituents
  • Technical savvy with a variety of office technologies (e.g., Google Suite, Zoom)
  • Ability to foster and maintain working relationships built on mutual trust and respect with parents, students, trustees, donors, alumni, and staff
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with acute attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to continuously acquire new competencies and accept new challenges
  • A commitment to public education and alignment with Gateway’s mission and values, including creating an anti-racist community.
