Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Vendor Relations and Inventory Procurement Specialist to join our team. This role involves establishing and evaluating vendor relationships, maintaining top-quality inventory at the lowest cost, and providing essential training to vendors and buyers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in purchasing, vendor management, and inventory control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with key auctions and vendors to secure the best quality automobiles at the lowest average costs.
  • Conduct quarterly reviews of “Preferred Vendors” and “Auctions” based on repairs, cost, and mix.
  • Develop new vendors and auctions, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Travel with the Regional Purchasing team, Area Operations Managers, VP of Inventory, and VPO to review sources, quality, and negotiation skills, providing follow-up training as necessary.
  • Evaluate numeric performance and develop improvement plans for the Purchasing team.
  • Monitor and influence inventory levels and title management at Car-Mart locations through guidance and direction.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining forms and training documentation related to inventory.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve the quality and cost of inventory procurement, including transportation, source management, and personal expenses.
  • Assist Operations management in recognizing the performance of individual Purchasing team members by Region.
  • Maintain surplus inventory fulfillment centers; ensure the quality and price of vehicles; distribute titled inventory as needed.
  • Maintain, update, and distribute vehicle “Purchasing Guidelines” to ensure high-quality standards for our customers.
  • Formulate and implement quality purchasing guidelines.
  • Attend monthly Regional Managers Meetings to provide inventory and purchasing-related information.
  • Collaborate with Area Managers, Regional Purchasing team members, and General Managers to discuss performance and improvements, distributing vehicles from the fulfillment center as needed.
  • Assist the Vice President of Operations with source establishment and growth, including in larger metro areas outside their boundaries.
  • Represent the company professionally in all disputes or issues with any vendors or contractors.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in purchasing, vendor management, and inventory control.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing purchasing guidelines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various teams and departments.
