Director of Financial Reporting

Shore United Bank is seeking a full-time Director of Financial Reporting to join our team. The Director of Financial Reporting oversees and directs the organization's financial reporting function. In addition, this role oversees SOX processes and controls including ensuring that controls are designed and maintained for the third-party relationships for all critical accounting policies, including the Bank’s CECL model and income taxes. The Director of Financial Reporting works closely with the Chief Accounting Officer to ensure control processes are designed and working as intended for the Company’s critical accounting policies and estimates, which include the allowance for credit losses, income taxes and other critical accounting estimates as they become relevant (e.g., goodwill & bargain purchase gains, loans acquired, etc. in a business combination).

Essential Functions Include

  • Directs work related to the preparation, review, and filing of periodic SEC forms, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K and Call Report. Prepares footnotes, analysis and commentary, financial statements, and other supporting documentation, in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Primary author of Forms 10-Qs and 10-K as well as quarterly earnings releases.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees. Supervises the Financial Reporting Manager and has authority for personnel decisions.
  • Researches technical accounting issues and present findings.
  • Collaborates with external auditors.
  • Is the lead in developing and maintaining SOX controls for the Company. Serves as the primary SOX liaison with all business units (level 1), risk (level 2) and internal audit (level 3) to ensure adequate internal controls are maintained.
  • Assists with the quarterly close process, and other financial reporting projects as needed.
  • Works with Chief Accounting Officer to establish departmental policies, practices, and procedures that have a significant impact on the organization's long-term success.
  • Provides accounting assistance during special projects, such as mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures.
  • Keeps informed of new accounting standards and SEC disclosure requirements, documents assessment of GAAP and SEC updates on financial reporting implications and provides training as needed.
  • Assists with external communications with individual investors, investment bankers, external financial analysts, and legal teams.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the Company’s compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g., Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc.
  • Participates in required training sessions, including training for compliance with BSA/AML policies and procedures.

Location: This position can be based out of Shore United Bank offices in either Easton, MD or Waldorf, MD.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

  • Full-time.
  • Exempt.
  • Days of Work: Monday-Friday. Quarterly SEC and Regulatory filings may require additional hours.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of accounting or finance or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and management experience.
  • Must have experience in all required filings with public news outlets and NASDAQ.
  • Strong experience and knowledge of banking and financial services industry.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and SOX.
  • Active CPA designation required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in SEC financial reporting.

Compensation

  • The pay range for this position is $164,600 - $201,000 annually.
  • Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted hiring range based on factors such as relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, licensure requirements and/or skill level, and will be finalized at the time of offer.
