We are a nonprofit social enterprise on a mission to create food security in Africa, specifically in Sub-Saharan regions. Our focus lies in empowering farmers with affordable irrigation technologies that facilitate year-round farming. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, we are active in 17 countries and have positively impacted the lives of over 1.5 million people, contributing to the food security of more than 15 million individuals daily.

Role Overview

Responsibilities

In this key position, you will lead and enhance our communication strategy, enabling us to effectively share our impactful story with audiences across the U.S. and beyond. Your responsibilities will encompass the following areas:

Strategic Communications

  • Design and execute a storytelling strategy to amplify our mission and highlight the impact of our work.
  • Create and manage compelling content that inspires action and raises awareness among key audiences and stakeholders.

Content Creation

  • Produce engaging newsletters, informative Annual Reports, and dynamic multimedia content from the field.
  • Transform complex ideas into captivating stories that reflect our mission and the experiences of the farmers we support.

Digital Engagement

  • Develop and implement a data-driven digital advertising strategy to increase our reach.
  • Manage our digital presence with engaging content across various platforms.

Fundraising Communication

  • Collaborate with the Fundraising team to align communication efforts with donor engagement goals.
  • Craft targeted appeals that strengthen relationships and encourage long-term support.

Media Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, influencers, and media outlets.
  • Secure media coverage that highlights the vibrant stories of our farmers and the positive changes they're making.

Collaboration and Learning

  • Work closely with teams in Sub-Saharan Africa to gather authentic narratives and data.
  • Remain open to learning about the real experiences of farmers, ensuring our communications are accurate and impactful.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years in communications, public relations, or a related field, ideally within international nonprofits or social enterprises.
  • Creative Storytelling: Strong writing and design skills, with proficiency in tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies that enhance engagement and awareness.
  • Digital Knowledge: A solid understanding of digital marketing and social media trends, along with an ability to analyze data.
  • Collaborative Leader: Possess excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for teamwork with diverse stakeholders.
  • Mission-Driven: A genuine understanding of the challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa, fueled by a desire to enact positive change.
  • Willingness to Travel: Excited to travel domestically and internationally for storytelling and collaboration.

Work Schedule and Location

This full-time remote position allows flexibility to work from anywhere in the continental United States. Our U.S.-based team operates from cities including New York, Boston, and San Francisco.
